The reason I’m posting is not to change minds because I doubt I will change anyone’s mind. But my guess is there are others like me who would like to contribute more but are just beat down by the overwhelming negativity.

Wise to accept not changing minds around here. You aren't alone with this view, but it varies by degree. Some of us have had a similar rant over the years, but eventually became one with the site and accepted our role on it. I can say we've had it worse when it comes to dumpers (which is admitting we DO have a negativeity problem), but like an alcoholic who admits there is a problem, sometimes we prefer to live with it than try to change it.

I see a join date over a year ago - you do lurk a lot. Welcome out of the shadows, hope you post more.

So I did deploy to Iraq...............................but I lived at the US Embassy in Baghdad in an apartment. So yea, sort of the stereotype. But I was in Baghdad?? Ok it was the Air Force

Understand, I told my son he should go in the AF. You can even be a grunt if you want to be, jump out of planes and go cool training as Combat Controller, while still living in 4 star hotels type dorms and have room service.

Or have plenty of smarty pants jobs if you are smart enough to operate something other than Leather Personnel Carriers.

I was a longtime lurker as well that finally jumped in during the disaster that was Mac. Took me a little while to settle in. Had some posters blast me a bit and it pissed me off. I quickly realized I was taking things way too seriously so I just started hitting back. I just think of it all as lighthearted banter. Been having lots of fun here ever since.
