    For now. The initial goal was to expand the playoffs. The Power 5 will eventually force the issue and raise the criteria to get into the field. Eventually, it will take a once every 5 years or so team like those Boise State, UCF and Cincinnati teams. The rare exception, not the rule.

    The argument against a Group of 5 team being in the playoffs is that they wouldn't do as well if they had run a P5 conference gauntlet from mid-October through November, rather than having all offseason to prepare for a College Kickoff game or 5 weeks to prepare for a bowl game. edit -- UCF...

    Whatever agreement the conferences THINK they have in place for next year's 12 team playoffs -- particularly as it applies to selecting at large teams -- will undergo immediate review if the SEC gets left out of the playoffs today. SEC Commish Greg Sankey is always thinking 2 moves ahead.
