Love the lines on that car. Fast as shyt.

Are you specifically shopping a four-door?
I think so. I actually am driving a Dodge Charger rental. I like it's size. It's beefy. But the trim is kinda chinzy. Plus it's $40k. I'd give them maybe $25 for it. LOL.
So Option 2

Just curious, Threat. Are you fixing the tranny and selling the 550M or selling it as is? I would think it would be tough to negotiate the $4,700 repair into the price, which may make it more sensible to just drive the car.

I ain't fixing it. I'm offering it up as the trade in. Using that as the negotiation.

It would be helpful to know the wholesale cost to replace the transmission.

I hate to trade with dealers and yet it’s a PITA to arrange the sales tax credit on your own.

Good luck.

Being in the repair biz the best extended warranties are usually the ones offered by the manufacturer at their dealer, I.E. A beamer bought at a beamer dealer, Factory certified helps on that, Usually in higher end dealers factory certified can carry a fairly good warranty on its own. I don't work for any dealer so I'm not getting any kickbacks.

As for extended warranties I don't deal with them, I'll make the initial call to get claim rolling, Then you pay me and they'll pay you, Had too many bite me in the ass, But rarely do they screw the customer.

Those fancy magnetic shocks were developed by GM, They have metallic particles in the fluid that change how they flow through the orifices based on magnetic pulses.

Want reliable? Get a Honda or Toyota

Yes they were developed by GM. All those metal particles floating around get in the way of holding the fluid intact. They’re a leak machine, but they do perform well. I try to keep my car as stock as possible, so I’ll put more of those Chinese babies in when I replace these.

Oddly enough, they cost a tad more to replace on my car than a GM.

It's the actually the mechatronics unit. It's $3000 from BMW. So figure they're charging $1700 for the labor. Just for comparison it costs $800 to $1000 to have the transmission fluid flushed and replaced.
I can find a remanufactured unit in cali for $2200. And my mechanic would do the work. It requires the car being on a lift so I wouldn't even think of attempting it.
When dealing with dealers I negotiate the best price then say "oh by the way, what will give me for a trade in?" Then keep walking out the door until they give me a fair deal.

Smart. That’s exactly how to negotiate. Get them to commit first.

Ever walk up to that shapely blonde from behind only to have her turn around and find out she's got a beak.....that's what the front of this car reminds me of.....but her beak....Have you seen one in person?

That’s the part of the Giulia I like best. The Italians know how to design cars. I’ve seen several on the road here.

We have a Red one that drives around our office here.... It's unique and I'm sure it's a fine car....just doesn't do it for me though.

There were a couple Alfa Spiders on campus way back in the day. I used to drool over them. Then for the longest time you hardly saw any Alfas on the road. They’re trying to up their US presence.

So I’m sitting here in my beautiful BMW 550i M waiting for a tow truck and reevaluating my life choices. I should have known better but I always wanted a BMW so I figured what the hell. Kinda like having Sapphire move in with you. Every man should date a dancer at least once so that they know never to do it again. Same apples to owning a used BMW.
For all their complex German engineering they just aren’t meant to last longer than the 3 year lease. It’s the tranny this time. Which I’m guessing is going to be about 4 grand. I’m also trying to stay ahead of an inevitable valve job that’s about 3 grand. And a common water leak that usually runs about 2 grand.

Might be a good time to sell.
Wifey is one of those who thinks owning a Beemer is a way to show affluence. No sense in trying to talk any sense into her. Me, I like my Toyota's. I don't really give a rat's ass what she buys, but it does irk me when I'm the one who gets called when the thing lays down on her..

Dude, get a full-sized truck, either American or Japanese. They are incredibly roomy, comfortable, and practical. I have one now and I don't know if I'll ever be able to not have one again.
