TebowNut6: I don’t remember hearing… has Dan found someone (hopefully a proven rockstar) to lead his recruiting dept. yet? And in that same vein, how many more off-the-field recruiting folks do you think we need to hire to start really competing with the likes of Bama, UGA, LSU, etc for these elite players? Has this (the #’s) been one of our biggest Achilles heels from a “closing” standpoint (vs. our position coaches), or do we just not have the quality other schools have in this capacity?

AS: Mullen has everyone as equals in the room working together instead of having just one head of recruiting. He thinks that process works better for him so that’s what he’s going with. I do expect Florida to add some more guys though.

Meh. Who calls themselves TebowsNuts anyway?

Akgator2003: In your opinion what is it about this staff exactly that they don’t match up with the UGA, Bama, Clemson, LSU coaches on the trail? Don’t relate well to the prospects? Not aggressive enough?

AS: Florida has to get more aggressive here and they have to push for early commitments more but the more on the field success the better this should get. The off the field recruiting staff is helping the coaching staff a lot.

More Meh

SwampRise: What are the odds that Mullen makes moves at one or more of the coaching positions if we whiff on Smith, Braun, RBs, and other remaining targets on the board? Part 2 – are we still a Top 10 class if we completely whiff on all these guys?

AS: Right now it doesn’t look like any coaching changes are going to be made but you also see movement after signing day so that could change for sure. And yes, I think Florida still lands a top 10 class.

I call BS. He's just as tall as Brady White and Riley Ferguson with more athleticism and a much stronger arm. The fsu writers aren't going to say that the brand new coach met with its most important recruit only for that recruit to be so turned off he immediately decommits. Unless he is able to flip a legit QB, this is devastating.

This pretty much answers the question if he was processed or not:

This won't help them at Sandalwood, where they also had a DB de-commit.

Since I have never had confidence CDM's recruiting, I have lower expectations. I think that we don't get XH, T. Smith, E. Smith, or Williams. We can all hope that I am wrong.
I feel that a class finishing no worse than eighth would represent the incremental progress that CDM must keep making. Are we likely to finish eighth or better without the four players I named?

He’s gonna ruin his shot at kids in a lot of schools with the way he’s handled everything so far...I hope they fall behind in another class and fall further and further...coaches and schools don’t forget this stuff

Honestly I think we get 2/4 and end up 7th or so...this Wednesday is gonna be huge for Mullen and his success

@ThreatMatrix I read that last part and it ruined my morning. Not really, but it should have.

Honestly, it would make no sense to announce changes at this moment. A large portion of kids will be deciding at this point next week, so we'd be throwing a last minute wrench in everything to make a move here. Look at uga's loss of Pittman, or the decommits in Tally. Even if it's a positive long term, it would likely cost us. And even a lights out recruiter would have a hard time making a case in 7 days. We shouldn't have guys like Knox and English out there to begin with, but that decision was already made and potential damage--on the field and in recruiting--done. Once everyone is signed in Feb, then we should start looking at changes.

Makes sense but it was more of the way I perceived the tone of his comment. Did not inspire confidence that changes were even on the table.

For the life of me I can't understand how "sports writers" or "insiders" like Spivey stays employed? I honestly can't remember the last time I read one of his recruiting articles and it had something I hadn't already read on here? All he has to do is read this website for a week, cherry pick a few questions from weirdo's who haven't stumbled onto this site yet and give ball park answers. It really is amazing how terrible the writers for the Gators are, it makes me wonder if all college team beat writers are this bad? I guess after he makes it onto "my 600 lb life" he may have some street cred and then be able to actually break some news.

At least we’re going after and (possibly getting) some of the better players in the state
Yes. If an instate player is close in eval to an out of state, we should take the instate kid. We need to repair the instate relationships first and dominate at home.

Yeah, this will be what kills Mullinz. He just cant see or do the things necessary to be elite.

Just like McElstain, he thinks he is doing well enough.

Shade45: What’s the latest on RB and WR recruiting?

AS: At receiver, the Gators are still after Xzavier Henderson, Elijah Canion, Kentron Poitier and Malik Heath. Right now the Gators aren’t leading for any of those guys though

My guess is he’s a part time stringer. He couldn’t possible cover his grocery bill off GC. Maybe the pork rinds.
