It's not a great class, but it's a pretty good class. Hopefully, we'll get a few more additions to make this a great class in Feb.

Who would that be tho?

If we add just one of Henderson, Washington or Williams I'd be elated.

Realistically tho I think they're all reaches at best

Franklin said he lacked work ethic to the point he got up to 250 pounds. I'd take a risk on Shorter before Sam Brown just because of the talent. If Mullen can get the kid's head fixed, he's a stud.

Bring him in as a WR, give him until close of Spring to trim down. If he doesn't, congrats, you’re our new SDE.

This thread bears a strong similarity to the impeachment proceedings I watched this afternoon while waiting for an appointment in the doctor's office (I won't say who sounds like who). I'm not much of a recruitnick these days, so outside of some recent casual study, I'm not real familiar with all the names on our signee list. I do believe in the worth of star power and filling needs. Looks like we have thus far been adequate overall. I'd be really worried if we had WRs and a RB in place of our OL/DL guys at this point. Had the latter been a strength this year, especially OL, we might have been playing for the conference championship (and maybe more). But that's a speculative opinion.

I have felt all along that Mullen would have to really improve the recruiting to get us back in the championship(s) conversation. Strides made thus far, but not quite there yet. It remains to be seen if there is fruit to be picked still. I can't tell you for sure if it is a matter of replacing staff members, Mullen's overall recruiting strategy, facilities, or just what that has us on the fringe of the upper echelon, but I'd guess it is some part of all of it. That makes it Dan's responsibility to improve the process by whatever means if we are to be in the conversation soon.

If there's a bright spot for me, it's that we should begin seeing, hearing about, and feeling the improvement on the LOS. Even though the game is so much more about speed these days, the majority of them are ultimately won or lost in the trenches. We might finally have enough bodies and quality to boot so that we can prosper in stead of suffer in this aspect. If so, a lot of things get better.

The final questions become how quickly do we see the positives with the line and do we have enough weapons remaining at WR and RB to push us beyond recent sticking points? There's a good chance it might be next season if development goes well and injuries don't weaken us. Probably a better chance the year after, but I'm not sure the faithful (often a loose term, to be sure :)) can make it that long. Strange that 10/10+ win seasons can be disappointing, but that's the sporting life these days, isn't it?

So what happened with Shorter? How did the nation’s top-ranked 2018 receiver recruit, according to the 247Sports recruiting site, find himself in this position? As always, multiple factors apply.

Shorter’s freshman-year development was slowed by an injury that limited him to four games and caused him to miss six during the middle of the season. But, as McSorley said, a sharp December, followed by a productive offseason, positioned Shorter for a breakthrough 2019.

Penn State worked with Shorter during the offseason to keep his weight down. The receiver was listed at 235 pounds, but last spring Franklin said Shorter was “a cheeseburger away from 250."

~ Mark Wogenrich, The Morning call

Seems like Shorter has had weight and injury issues since arriving on campus. Do the two go together? This year, Shorter got hurt again. He dropped passes before being replaced as the starter. But, it says something about Shorter that through all of this, Franklin was starting him in games.

Question for @ltraz, or anyone else more familiar with the transition from HS to college. On McDaniel. Assuming we don’t land any more WRs in this class, and with the number of DBs, could you see him getting a shot at WR? I ask because it’s been noted that he has tremendous speed, and the film I saw of him had him playing offense quite a bit. I recognize the vast difference between playing it at their respective levels, but if he’s an unfinished product at Safety anyway, why not try to mold him as a WR?

Curious to see thoughts on that as I’m not very knowledgeable on that side of things.

Well fellas I can no longer join those who are bumming about our good-but-not-great signing day. I'm over it. Just sat here and watched my Miami Heat gloriously deliver the first home loss of the year to the Philadelphia 76ers and arguably the world's worst fanbase. Literally their first home loss of the year and yet the boobirds were out in force, for their own team! Despicable. Poor Al Horford for having to play there. But I am pretty damn happy with that result. LET'S GO HEAT!

Errbody gettin’ waivers. Shorter just needs to make up a way that PSU hurt his feelings - like maybe he was super offended by the dreadlocks letter his teammate received from a fan - and he’ll be ready for 2020.
