Wife & I mixed up our annual fruitcake tonight. It is sitting in the fridge overnight per the instructions in my mother's recipe. 2019-12-11 18.23.30.jpg

Butter, brown sugar, pecans, candied cherries & pineapple, lemon flavor, flour, baking powder and eggs.

Only the good stuff. No filler!

At the processing center, the cherries are bleached in a solution of calcium chloride and sulfur dioxide until they turn yellow. Next, they're marinated in huge vats of high fructose corn syrup and Red #4. View this video on YouTube. Which isn't the most natural process. :ugh:

In answer to the OPs question....No thanks ;)

Sweet, leaves more for me!

4 sticks of butter
4 cups of pecans
1 pound candied cherries & pineapple
1 pound brown sugar
6 eggs
1 ounce lemon flavor
1 tsp baking powder

What exactly do folks find objectionable in the list above, other than calories?

We have a GatorChatter Cookbook. Is this a worthy recipe to enter and we have no fruitcake yet.

No shag-nasty citron in my fruitcake recipe.

Citron and other non-desirable ingredients is why most folks don't like fruitcake.

I will take your opinion of a pound cake vs a fruit cake with a grain of salt.

Looks good! We make date nut bread for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but only a few days before.
