I'd like to see Mullen hire a WR coach from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or any number of programs that throw the ball a ton. Hiring re-treads or guys who "know" your system is lazy, to put it mildly. But I'd trade Dallas Baker for Gonzalez today!
Maybe, but a position coach isn't changing the offense. Hiring a Co-OC or passing game coordinator etc might.

For position coaches, give me recruiters and recruiters who know the southeast. If we have to pay "the going rate" then we have to pay the going rate. I'm tired of US being the ones losing coaches to Bammer or Ugly bc we are paying 1/2 to 1/3 of what they get there. (Though Im quite glad to have gotten rid of atrocious Charlton, we shouldnt lose any talented guys like that.)

He took Zach Smith and Drayton with him, though likely bc they couldn't land a coordinator job anywhere like most of the other staff.

Urban didn't tolerate poor performing staff however. I wish we had some of that right now.

he took he recruiting coordinator too. Forget his name.

I’m like minded. Not looking to partially revamp the offense via new blood position coaches tweaking it. Much more pressing need to upgrade recruiting at that level. I think the Jimmies and Joes are the glaring priority. Of course Dan could always hire an actual full-time OC if we want to advance the O - that’s a good subject for a separate post!

BMFs thought regarding upgrading the O with a new hire just triggered a random Christmas wish. Chris Petersen as OC.

I'm talking about on-field assistants. He also took Marrotti. Mark Pantoni is the recruiting coordinator.

Edit: he also hired Brian Voltolini, who worked w/ him at Utah & Florida - in an off field role.

Marotti is the highest paid off field assistant at Ohio State, making $785K (plus bonuses - he'll get about a 25% bonus so far, more if they advance in the playoffs).

Voltolini makes $237K and Pantoni makes $200K (plus the same bonuses as Marotti), making them the 2nd & 3rd highest paid off-field assistants.

Mickey Marotti, Brian Voltolini and Mark Pantoni Lead Ohio State's Support Staff with New Contracts, Increased Salaries for 2019

I remember someone mentioning that we should steal him away from Crackumbus.

I lolled. That's probably double our whole off the field budget.

To be consistent, if we blame him when guys don't come, we should credit him when guys do. Can't have it both ways.

Like who? Watkins and Copeland, who were committed the day he was hired?

Butters Specials Marks or Weston?

Or Fraziars?

Maybe we should give him credit for the ones he landed who werent we could have been anybody else because they were obviously going as juco like Manuel and Arjei Henderson?

I’ll reserve judgement on Weston since Seider found him and he never camped

We really shouldnt be in the position of taking huge reaches.

Just like Whittemore they were offered by butters and their slots honored. However, let's be realistic here, we had no other options anyway. We tried with dozens of others and whiffed. Realistically those guys should be walk ons/pwo. It's not like we had competition for them.

He was going to be canned by Petersen but he would have had a harder time doing it. Like Mullen and him hanging onto his boys he knows, Hamden was a former QB under Petersen at Boise State. The new HC at Washington, Lake, is a DC and knew the offense sucked.

Would be a big get. Was a 5* recruit.

@DK_Thompson: Justin Shorter coming to campus today means Florida is likely in the driver seat. Likely meeting compliance, academics, and doing tours.

I think he’d be a really good pickup after some of the Savage treatment. Looking forward to seeing him suit up for us in the fall!
