Brad suggested I post this - I just signed up for the Apple Card - interesting concept. Backed by Goldman Sachs and MasterCard branded, the “rewards” are good (not great) but other perks have me liking it so far.

First - it’s an Apple Pay card - you actually don’t have to have a “card” at all. It took about 3 mins to apply, and I used it instantly to purchase a MacBook and iPad (plus some accessories) and got 6% cash back (an offer through Dec 31).

The “cash back” is instantaneous- immediately is available in your “Apple Cash” account and can be used for anything and anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.

There are zero fees (nothing initial, nothing annual) and the standard cash back is 3% for all Apple purchases, 2% for all other purchases (with Apple Pay) and 1% for all purchases that use the “physical” card. You have to request the card (through the Apple wallet) - it took 4 days to get here, has no number, expiration, or CVV number - it’s just a swipe strip and a chip, and my name on the card. It’s titanium and heavy :)

What I like is the security. Every transaction is on a different number (you can even get a “manual CC number” for things like online transactions that you manually enter the number, expiration, and CVV number that is a “one time” number).

Everything is done through Apple wallet - all transactions, statements, analytics, payments, cash back...everything. I currently use a Chase VISA Southwest card for everything, but my Southwest flying days are likely being replaced by United (more international now) so this seems like it might be a worthy replacement. I figure I’ll clear $2500/yr with no fees...not bad including the security features.

I just use a straight up cash back card, I don’t like having to worry about using one card for gas, another for groceries, etc., nor do I want to be hassled with points and conversion for travel. Straight up 2% with my Citi card no matter whether I’m paying for groceries or porn. And yes, my life is basically charged and I pay it off every month. I’ve never paid a dime of interest on it.
