I have it on good authority SOS is gonna step in with Urban as the recruiting coordinator.........
Offer the UVA coach. He seems like a sharp guy.

I've always had a lot of respect for Bronco Mendenhall. Solid coach who did a really good job at BYU and is turning around Virginia of all places.

I'm not usually a fan of looking at coordinators, but if we do I'd be happy with Venables. From his time at OU and Clemson the dude would have a ton of connections to put together a fine coaching staff at Florida. He's the only coordinator I'd look at.

If he could lure Chad Morris as his OC, I'd definitely take it.

Yea, there's no questioning he plays tough defense and has built up tons of great recruiting relationships in the South and especially Florida. But getting a solid OC would be very, very impt for obvious reasons. Morris isn't a bad option, but he wouldn't be a sure-fire thing or an easy get IMO.

no more DCs.

It just doesn’t fit our culture.

Marc Helfrich is available.

I’d roll the dice on Joe Brady.
That’s the high-risk, high-reward pick.

Safe pick? Stoops. No, not him. The one at Kentucky. He’d build a solid, if not spectacular, program.

Alex.

I'd agree if we were discussing someone from the Saban coaching tree, but I'd take a modern day Bob Stoops if he shared Stoops' offensive philosophy and could produce a similar product on the field. Venables comes from coaching trees that have a fairly modern and less conservative approach to offense than your typical Saban DC protege.

Being only 2 hours away by car, the relocation & moving expenses would be significantly less than if we hired an out of state coach. That would immediately get Foley’s attention and a deal would be consummated ASAP.
The majority of the cost is contracting and packing - not driving. Distance isn’t much of an issue. I speak from a place of experience having moved 5 times in 7 years.

Well my guess is that Norvell’s boxes haven’t yet been unpacked…so I stand by my prediction.

They have to unpack and repack everything as the new company or team is responsible for a new inventory. Did it to us the last two times with stuff we didn’t even open from the prior move. Really annoying.

I'd call James Franklin , Venables. In a couple of years Joe Brady if he proves he can repeat his success with Burrow with other QBs and receivers.

I'd hire Law as HC, Itraz as DC and FireFoley as OC. I'm sure they'll win the SEC in the first year, a NC in their second year.

Here’s a better question. What if Mullen were to leave — as in ceding playcaller duties — in favor of someone with a similar philosophy, like a Rodriguez or Helfrich, thus freeing himself up to operate more CEOish?

Big impact? Small impact? Why are you asking, dumbo?

What? I never said anything in this thread, and I’m certainly not the one who floated Mullen-to-Dallas.

You need to make sure you’re attending your AA meetings.

There are several posts in this thread mentioning Bronco Mendenhall. Sure he's an innovative coach and an interesting man. He is a good coach for programs like BYU and UVa. But for an SEC program that want to win the SEC I don't think so.

Before the Orange Bowl game Mendenhall said Virginia might get blown out but if they hung together and were in the game he would consider it a moral victory if they lost a close one. To be that's something akin to Butch Jones Champions of Life and Tax Slayer Bowl talk. That won't get you very far in Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge or Gainesville. Even if you're coaching Virginia you still have to have the mindset that we're coming to Miami not to look at the scenery but to beat the damn Gators. That kind of Bronco Mendenhall mindset will earn you the Mike Shula barbecue sandwich award in the SEC.

In the SEC as Lane Kiffin said at his introductory Ole Miss press conference "we don't want to be good; we want to be great". Mullen didn't leave Starksvegas because he wanted to come to UF to win some moral victories against Georgia and LSU. No, he came here because he wanted to run it down the throat of LSU, Georgia, and FSU and get a statue built.

UVa only builds statues to great historical figures like Thomas Jefferson then wants to tear them down when the political winds blow another way. UF builds statues to Spurrier, Wuerffel, and Tebow for eternity. Sure UF is a good academic institution but we don't worry like UVa does if a winning football program will tarnish our reputation. We're UF dammit; not Stanford. The only SEC school Bronco would be a good fit is Wonderbilt.
