Refresh my memory please...what did he do to Kyle Trask?

I remember him twisting on a foot but I thought that was to FF.
:dunno:

There's no downside for him to admit it and apologize now. The NFL ain't gonna care.

But kudos to him for making the effort anyway.

Exactly! The most pleasantly surprising aspect of this is that he clearly did it of his own volition since there was clearly no pressure on him to do so given all the time that's passed. Speaks volumes about his character if his conscience bothered him enough to drive him to do this voluntarily when it wasn't at all necessary or expected.

Not to mention, he could have focused on the bowl win or the school or himself/his career (as the announcers clearly expected and he somewhat deserved, given his career work). He chose to take his platform and to deliver this message--not just to Trask, but to the University, and to us as fans.

It takes a real man to do that and he's earned my respect.

After Trask replaced FF in the UK game, there was a pile up near the goal line and the camera caught Daniel actively trying to twist Trask's ankle in order to intentionally injure him (ala Darnell Dockett on Earnest Graham). Thankfully a ref was standing right there (didn't call anything though, of course) so Daniel quit twisting before he could inflict any serious damage. When Tate Casey reported the incident after the game, Daniel vehemently denied it saying his hand was just trapped under a lineman's foot. Then new footage came out showing that was total BS as evidenced by this article from a UK writer.

Eventually, Mark Stoops somewhat intervened and suspended him for a quarter against Mississippi State which was pretty lame. It was much more lame by far that the SEC did nothing to intervene despite clear evidence of an intentional attempt to injure another player well after the play was over.

Ultimately the classless act coupled with the bold faced lies denying it must have been eating at Daniel ever since prompting him to this apology. Unfortunately, most people in this day and age never have the guts to stand up and take ownership of a mistake like this especially when they've already more or less gotten away with it. For that reason I give the guy props for using the opportunity on a national TV forum to try and make it right especially when he didn't really have to.

Here's the vid. He denied it initially and tried to say his hand got stuck under Trask's foot.

Daniel apparently wasn't involved in Franks' injury.

Too little, too late.
He as nothing to lose and everything to gain with an apology at this point. He can still rot in hell.

Exactly, would've meant more to me if he'd made that same apology after the game. He did it intentionally and the video proved it, and he still wouldn't own up to it when it was pointed out to him after the game. He absolutely has nothing to lose coming clean with it now, had he done it earlier maybe there would've been a ton of pressure on Stoops to suspend him multiple games. I think he did suspend him for a half at some point after our game.

I can understand as a player wanting to wait until the end of the season to admit wrongdoing. And while it does seem a bit long after the incident, the fact that it was unsolicited carries a lot of weight with me. I accept his apologies for my share of the fan base. Everyone else can decide for themselves.

Too late for what? He is not likely to even be a late round draft pick in the NFL and this kind of incident isn't likely to keep any NFL team from taking a flyer on him with an unrestricted free agent contract in the preseason since he's a longshot to make even a practice squad.

I certainly understand your animosity given how truly dirty his action was, but everyone has long ago moved on from this incident so it seems to me this is a legitimate apology because it really bothered him this was part of his legacy at UK.

PR move only....

What public is he relating to? He is a graduating senior with minimal pro prospects so I doubt that's his motivation. Seems more likely to me that this is an attempt to try and cleanse his legacy somewhat given that, for the most part, no one really cares about his career from here besides him and his family.
