If you knew what 2 years into Mullen would be, would you have taken it?

Ridiculous. I get it w scUM. They are poverty stricken down there.

No excuse for us

We dug ourselves a hole at the worst possible time. You just knew state recruiting wasn’t going to terminally exist in a vacuum. Bama, UGA, those Clemson thieves, Urb’s Bucks, they all poached our traditional soil.

Scum isn't coming back. They don;t have the money. They don't have the fan base. All they've got is big fake gold turnover chains. That will always appeal to some of the 305 prospects.
FSU pew has only one more swing and miss. If they don't get it right this time, they'll go the way of other programs that were once very good and then fell of the map.

If things go down that way, then we really only have to worry about out of state poachers. I like the odds. I'm not certain that it will go down that way, but I think there's a good chance.

It must be difficult for their 30 fans to watch their own alum achieve notoriety at Oregon while they suffer through yet another Temple debacle.

Who's minimizing his talents? I already said he was a great gameday coach....but being a great recruiter doesn't minimize one coaching ability...In fact the only chinks in his armor was he let FSUX and UM get a few top guys that may have brought us another NC or 2....those were the ONLY 2 schools in the nation that had better talent(on paper) than SOS had during his tenure......
Now get an icepack for that un necessary case of asshurt you picked up somewhere....

Hurt? No, And I'm not saying you're completely wrong, but I think your insistence that SOS needed top talent is a bit of an overstatement. He took a group of players who, although not devoid of talent, were still suffering from scholarship reductions and waltzed into tuscaloosa to beat the tide. His worst roster was in '92 and he still took his team to the 1st ever SECCG.

His coaching acumen is a rare commodity and we need to recognize it's not always readily available everytime we conduct a coaching search.

Coaches always have bumps the first year. Since we didn't see anything like that this year I'm writing 2018 UK/Mizzo off to that.
Next year gonna be interesting. Assuming we stay healthy we should take LSU at home. The oline has to get figured out though. We can't go another season without a run game. The 2019 team had some serious flaws - hats off to Mullen getting 11 wins. I'm amazed where Mullen has taken us. Recruiting is soo close. We have something like 12 top 250 recruits for the first time in a decade.
However doing the same thing and expecting different results....
Gotta see some staff changes.

My take... I think Mullen is a much better coach than Sharkboy and MooseDump but, I think he brought a sub-tier staff with him and we cannot beat Georgia, and reach Atlanta, until he recruits better and has a better group of coaches and coordinators... And, by recruiting better, I mean top three and better than Georgia.

There's dozens of things Mullen has accomplished since he's been here that I never expected him to. Way too many to list for sure. But there's also 3 obvious things he's done that still give me reservation about him going forward.

These posts are the reason I started this thread. I generally agree with these posts and, as a result, only a couple months ago I would say I wish we went in a different direction. But, dumpster fire or not, beating FSU and ending with NY6 bowl wins has me reassessing. Even with the remaining risks/limitations I’ve come over to the side that is simply responding “yes” is take it with those limitations and future Richt like risks.

Spurrier has said on several occasions that Georgia was credited for having better recruiting classes especially at Q back, running back and wide receiver. In retrospect it seems their skill position players have done better in the NFL than Gator skill players with few exceptions. Proving Spurrier's point that he was the better coach.

SOS has also said many times, when asked if Saban was the best college coach, that Saban was the best recruiter and if Saban was the best coach he would have won more championships because he always had better talent.

So far it appears that Mullen is pretty good at both and will result in even better seasons ahead.

That has to sting.

Plus, Saban isn't THE BEST recruiter. He wasn't the best recruiter at LSU. He just buys recruits (in various ways, from staff to facilities to bags o cash) with an unlimited budget.

He was a good but not great recruiter at LSU and MSU and mostly a 7-5 coach.

Deep down, South Pole Elf knows it.

Law, you mentioned Warrick back in the print media dark ages. There’s an even better example. Manning. Spurrier recruited the kid hard, but Archie wanted no part of his temperament.
Thankfully, we were 3 - 0 vs. Manning...4 - 0 if you count when Manning played as a true freshman after we knocked the starter from the game. Manning never beat UF or Spurrier...
