They’re unraveling. Consistent reports from players leaving that Kirby is dishonest. We’ve seen it on the trail, some. I won’t get into it again about his coaching acumen but I think we can both agree his greatest strength is recruiting. If he doesn’t change something soon, I think the natives will push him out.

While Tua is gone, his TD against UGA may have helped UF beyond anything that UF has done in the past decade, keep Kirby from getting a national championship. If he won that game, we may have been stuck in a deeper hole than we ever have.

Still one of my favorite non-UF plays of all time. Defeat is written all over those defenders and it’s glorious.

But to your point, you’re dead on. Just look at the RedSox post 2004. One game(one throw really) could’ve changed everything. The fact that uga couldn’t cash in with that team and that setting will haunt them forever.

And that’s why you see the frustration from their fans. You only have so many windows. And when you can’t fall back on, “well, at least we won it all last year”, situations like this are much tougher.

And it helps with the narrative that Shart is Richt 2.0. A buddy of mine who is a big dwag fan told me there was no way that narrative was true. He argued vehemently until I pointed out that after 4 seasons, Richt was 42-10 with one SEC title and zero natty’s; and after 4 seasons Shart is 44-12 with one SEC title and zero natty’s. Got him thinking.

Is it balanced? They’re about to fall apart on offense - hunting the transfer portal for 3 different positions.

And if we really wanted to take an honest look, we’d view it from a “personnel management”, not recruiting, perspective. There’s something to be said for getting the right guys to come but there’s also something to be said for keeping them around. His staff has been great at the former but looks worse by the day at the latter. Saban and Dabo are great at both. Mullen seems to be good at the latter and improving at the former.
UGAs 20 class is balanced if you look at the #s. The transfers hurt QB spot the most. I'd say Mullen has done about the same on retention as KS and slowly improving the talent level. The true difference is talent level that's transfered. Mullen's had a few less talented guys leave outside of Franks and Steele and KS it's a 5*

UGly not in shambles any more. That schedule is brutal though. This may be an upgrade over Fromm.
For the record, Fromm will be a 2nd-3rd round pick. Newman is thought of as a potential top 20 pick.

Sources: UGA picks up grad transfer QB Newman

This past season, Newman completed 60.9% of his attempts for 2,868 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He added 574 rushing yards with six more scores.

Newman ranked second in the ACC in total offense with 286.8 yards per game and fifth in passing with 252.7 yards per game.

Amazing how QB Newman has almost identical passing stats as Fromm -- however, his stats were against ACC foes, then teams worse than ACC foes. If UGa performs as well as last year, then somebody has done some excellent coaching.

That’s the point though. Nothing definitively says they’ll never do it. But having UF and ut both historically down, a team loaded with experienced NFL talent, an upgrade at QB by accident, a second shot at a team that blew you out but this time without their starting RB that accounted for nearly 250 yards in the first meeting, then an awkward Alabama offense for an entire half before a Freshman was turned to, is about as rare as it gets.

One or two of those things will happen. But not all that in one season. Their not cashing in that year would be like us not winning it all in ‘96. Belief that it can or will happen is dwindling among them.
