You realize Coach’s wife kisses all the players on the cheek before each game, right? If he wants any shot at ending up here, I’d shy away from announcing to the world that you just spent the past two years with strange mens’ genitalia on your face.

There's just something to this. Even if the PSU administration issued and having the findings Franklin had to know that bolting from Vandy amid that situation and going to of all places PSU after Sandusky he would have to monitor such situations more than ever. Taking that into account, Franklin may lack some control of his program in that area. It's not like he was walking into program that had no issues. No way he avoids any scrutiny with this.

Highly coveted by F$U during their recent search. Could you imagine if they'd landed him and then this story broke? Of course it was mentioned earlier that many wanted him here at one point. Dodged a bullet maybe?

This kind of stuff happens way to often in high school locker rooms with 17 and 18 year olds giving 13 and 14 year old freshman the business. It was happening when I was in high school and I've got a brother who's 6 years behind me and it was going on when he was there as well. It's harder for me to believe a 19 or 20 year old man letting 21 and 22 year old men do this shyt more than once. I guess we'll see how it plays out but I expect another Jonathon Martin situation to eventually come out.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer program if they’d gotten him.

This has got me to thinking about the locker rooms when I played and coached. I never once knew any of the type activity that was described in the article happening. There was a lot of playing and cuttin' up and a few fights, towel popping was prevalent. As a coach, I had a bunch of my players yelling and running around after a particularly bad practice early on in my career and I lined 23 of them up and paddled them. I'd be writing songs in San Quentin if I were to do this today, but it was different then and we had a much better attitude afterward.

Closest thing I remember as a player to what was described was when I was a freshman in HS and one of the upper classmen would mess with us youngsters, rite of passage and what not. The day it was my turn, Foghat's I Just Want to Make Love to You was blasting on the stereo and the guy was singing along and thumping me on the ears and so forth. Seemed like the whole team was crowded around. As he sang "...I don't want you be no slave, I don't want you work all day, I don't want 'cause I'm sad and blue...," I jumped in and 'took the mic' (so to speak) and finished the song with "...you can just suck my ---- 'til you turn blue!" He never messed with me anymore after the rest of the guys fell out and roasted him for the next couple of weeks and from then on we became good teammates. I think there's a subtle art to handling such situations without a lot of outside intervention.

Great story, Cover. For many of us (especially those of us who have a little more gray in our beards), we were raised to fight back, and we can't even imagine this kind of scenario happening. Unfortunately, modern society and our current education system has convinced many that the most noble thing one can hope to be is a victim (real or perceived, doesn't really matter). Critical thinking and coping skills are scarce these days. The good people are being raised to believe a system will save them, and the bad ones just look upon society as a bunch of targets. I hope the story out of PSU is all a fabrication, but it won't surprise me one bit if it's true.

Do people still thump ears? Sitting in High School in convocation listening to a very dull speaker when my ear got thumped. Before I knew what I had done, I had turned around and punched the offender in the nose. I never learned subtle. Turned out the jerk was a motorcycle guy thought to be the toughest guy in school. Explained he would kill me. Didn't because his tough guy pals made fun of him for picking on a nerd.
But a teacher stopped me as I exited and said sternly "I saw what you did!" While I contemplated my dire punishment she continued: "and I was so glad you did it."

Isn’t that just standard fraternity hazing? :dunno:

that would be a negative ghost rider. at least it wasn’t back in the 80’s. I think excessive alcohol consumption, rather than t-bagging, is the preferred method of hazing these days.

Kids still pick. Biggest difference is they use their phones a lot in the picking, but they still thump ears (among other things :)). Your experience is a reminder that there will be times when we've turned the other cheek enough and have to stand up for ourselves. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with "subtley" whipping someone's ass when they've asked for it ;)

My boys get thumped on the ear at least an average of twice per day. If that doesn’t correct the behavior, they know a spanking is coming. The next question is is if it’s feom Mom or Dad?
