Astros manager, GM suspended, team fined for cheating during 2017 championship season: reports

The Houston Astros fired manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow after Major League Baseball levied a one-year suspension on both men for their roles in the sign-stealing scandal, team owner Jim Crane announced Monday.

"I felt with what came out in the report they both had responsibilities," Crane said. "Neither one of them started this but neither one of them did anything about it."

As part of the punishment, Houston also loses its first- and second-round draft picks for the 2020 and 2021 drafts and will be fined $5 million, according to The Athletic. Former Astros assistant general manager Brandon Taubman will be placed on baseball’s ineligible list.

No players disciplined and Cora is off... for now. Weak response. It was a player developed system - that’s the MLB running away from the MLBPA. Plain and simple. Cora (former player and current Sox manager), supposedly, will get disciplined when the Red Sox investigation is completed but come on... two World Series champs in a row cheated the same way set only management gets implicated. Ok.

Have you read what they did and used to transmit those stolen signals? Buzzers in their shoes? Come on...they long went passed the spirit of the game and were warned. Everyone involved should be banned for life. They went well beyond gamesmanship into the actual arena of changing the outcomes of games. I don't have a single ounce of pity. Hammer. Guillotine. Off with their heads.

Certainly a noble gesture by the Astros owner to fire the manager and GM after they’d been suspended a year.

This is.........significant. It might not be quite as significant as the NBA ref who was betting on games and changing outcomes, but it's bad. I agree the players involved the most should face some serious consequences, as well.

As much as baseball hates change it's still probably time to switch to a system like softball uses, it's tamper proof. And yes I went there.
