What does Matthew 16:26 have to do with returning for his senior season? Apparently, that klimsun edumacashun didn't teach him how to read a book in context. Nope, just open up a book and believe whatever you want to believe about a paragraph. The author's original intent be damned. Sorry, I'm an avid reader and hate this kind of crap.

Why? He's getting bad advice from someone. There's not much incentive for RBs to come back to school. Unless you're in Perine's situation from a year ago and you were a situational player. I can see someone like that returning to prove they can be a workhorse back. Other than that, there's literally no upside in returning.

Simple - probably got a bad draft grade. Don’t know why but that’s the only thing that makes sense in today’s environment.

Maybe with selling his soul he’s talking about the NFL?

Barring some unforeseen issue, he is universally recognized as one of the top 2-3 backs in the draft. He isn't going any later than the 2nd round.

Well, what would another year in school do to improve his draft stock? He was already putting up good numbers. So I don't see those drastically changing. I only see downside here.

Who knows....maybe someone told him he'd go higher next year. I haven't watched enough of Clemson to notice if he's any good in protection? It seems like he has decent hands....

Don't think that it's that far off - he is returning to school to nourish his inner self, i. e., his soul, instead of profiting fro the NFL's filthy lucre.

Yeah, I don't understand why you're so opposed to this verse.

"What will it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"

This speaks to a man giving up on eternity because of the spoils that this life on Earth offers.

Maybe he sees the analogy of the NFL being the "desire" that he's willing to pass up for more quality time in college.

Is it honestly that hard to believe he wants to go out with another title?

I mean--I get it: these days, the second a junior has the talent to be drafted, 90% of them go (even if they'd be better served by staying), but there's always going to be exceptions.

And while on the surface, it doesn't make much sense for him to leave (with the risk of injury)--he plays for Clemson and vs ACC schools: most of their games are 30+ point blowouts. I'd wager that this year, he barely played into the 4th quarter of most games--and next year won't be much different with as soft as that conference is. They'll have all of 1 game vs a top 15 team (away to Notre Dame)...that's it. For all we know, Dabo could have promised him a light load to minimize the risk of injury.

Absolutely agree that he wouldn't have dropped much further than the 2nd round; but it's a *stacked* draft this year. Tons of NFL-ready talent at multiple positions. Burrow and Chase Young will almost assuredly be picks #1 and #2...and there's tons of quality skill position players everywhere.

Probably figures he can go first round next year (with a much weaker overall class--and especially at his position), while having another chance at a title and it be a managed risk since he's not exactly going to be playing in a ton of nail-biter games next season with the way Clemson has skated through conference play these last 2-3 years.

Probably doesn’t help that Swift, Dobbins and Taylor are probably going ahead of him in the draft. But it really sounds like he’s enjoying the college success and wants to see his school get another ring.

We’ve talked about current CU becoming something comparable to UF during the ‘06-‘09 stretch, and seeing a star player return against all odds fits that, even down to this little detail...

“The Tigers did lose co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott, who left to become the head coach at South Florida. But Clemson is expected to have continuity on the offensive staff with co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, who has been with head coach Dabo Swinney since 2015.”

Mmmm-hmmm.

That's about the level of Etienne's hermeneutics.

No such thing as minimizing injury risk in a brutal sport like football. You're always one play away from potentially ending your career.

And coming back to school to win a championship you aren't assured of is lunacy. He could be in the NFL making life changing money. And you point out the weak schedule as if you're less likely to get injured against sorry teams. Well football doesn't work that way. You have the same injury risk against any opponent. So I'm not really sure of your point in pointing that out.

And very few kids would actually benefit from coming back to school. That's a self serving proclamation that universities and coaches like to push. As if he wouldn't be developed on an NFL roster. As if college is the only place that develops players.

You definitely sound like a fan in your response. I'm not saying it's a negative. You just have no perspective.

Edit: I had to add this. But consider when Tebow came back to school for his senior season. As fans we were all ecstatic. But when you actually examine the decision it was a very poor one. What did it get him? Absolutely nothing! He didn't win a title. He didn't improve as a player. He wasn't better prepared for the pro game. None of that. It was a wasted year of football for him. Sure he got to experience the college life but what's the actual value of that?
