Briles offense is a one read offense, this actually should allow for Franks to play okay
I can't imagine him managing all those quick decisions and memorizing the playsets.

I do wonder what he was thinking, going to a lower level program and having a great offense for a year might get him the NFL chance he desires, playing there and getting beat badly probably won't. There is the xfl coming so that might be an opportunity.

He QUIT Florida to go compete at Arkansas, same conference. I’m surprised more of that isn’t being made here. Seriously, there is no rationale.
He didn't quit. He saw the writing on the wall. Just like Grier w/Mac. He gave everything here and it still wasn't enough. You guys really give the rest of us fans of UF a bad name and are the reason why SOS left.

You have to think he saw how well Trask played and then read the writing on the wall. Trask being an unknown is why FF started, even though his play did improve substantially from 2017-2018-2019.
Mac is who killed FF to UF fans here. They blamed him instead of the asshat in charge.

This is so pathetically stupid that you're getting a vacation. A long one. Get bent. Go to Swamp Gas and hang out with the "real" fans there.

Some how, with 3 whole months to think about it, the kid still is displaying sub par decision making skills.
Seriously. Mullen gave him a great suggestion to go to the Pirate. I guess the Pirate's new job nixed that one. I think Kansas would have been a better landing spot than Arkansas. He may have put up some numbers against Big 12 defenses.

I think Franks got some humble pie. He knew he wasn't going to start here since Trask is just better. He also apparently did not get a ton of interest after he said he was leaving Florida. His options were pretty limited, contrasted to a lot of recent transfers like Hurt, Burrow, Fields, etc. That had to hurt him. It also says a lot about his ability. If he were a rock star he would have ended up with a contender, not an also ran.

I have never met SOS but I think I can surmise he didn't give a **** what UF fans thought. Dude was winning SEC titles and a NC by humiliating our chief rival at the time. 9-11 probably screwed him out of another title.

He beat KT for the job here. What would that say about Mullen?

It says Mullen prefers QBs who are more experienced and more of a running threat than a pure pocket passer with minimal experience. But also I think Mullen got lucky. Trask was the better QB, but Franks was a better fit for Mullen's system. The injury forced Mullen to play the better player, and it paid off immensely.

I've defended Franks for much of his time here and still have no ill-will toward him. We won't play him so it's almost as if he did leave the conference and will be out of sight. That said, I think the move to Arkansas very much supports the feelings that many have here that he isn't the most mature kid and probably has an overly inflated view of himself. The reference to Driskel is perfect. Where the two players differ is that Driskel was humble enough to go to a place like LaTech, where he could potentially get his groove back against subpar defenses, even if it meant flying under the radar a bit. I think Franks' insistence on being at a big name school, namely in the SEC will be his downfall. He tended to struggle in games where the opponents had equal or better talent, minus a few exceptions.

His team will be looking up at every single squad they play against, outside of 3 games(and Nevada and ULM may be close). Not to mention being coached by a first time head man who wants to run a 1980s smash mouth system, focused on the run, which is likely going to be about lining up and beating the other guy as opposed to scheming a mismatch. I could be wrong, but this is not the fit for him and I think his arrogance is the reason he's there. Still wish him the best(even if it means having my Oxbucks seized or frozen), but this was a bad move.

Where is the evidence that Pittman wants to play 80s football? Because he coached under Smart and is an OL guy? Bringing in Briles would not support that style of offense and I could have sworn I saw a quote from Pittman saying he wants to run a spread offense (or something to that effect).

@soflagator from his opening presser:

“If you look at the RPO game with the abilities for your quarterback to run and or throw," Pittman said. "If you get big, big, if you are going 12-plus, if you are going 12-22, 21-plus in this league, you better have the real deal because they're gonna have guys at 320, 330 pounds on the other side. I'm not telling you that the philosophy has gone to spread because that's a lie, but I think you do have to have the edge covered. But, I don't think you can just turn around down and down and hand the ball off to the tailback and say let's go sic ‘em. You might be able to do it in the third and fourth quarters, but so what we want is to be versatile.

"I love the RPO game, I like the quarterback read game. I like the 11, which is one tight end and three wideouts. I like to throw the flash screens and different things that are into the RPO system. Again, when I was here at Arkansas the first time we played bully ball. It worked for us at times and sometimes it didn't. It's like football. I think there's a time to bully people well, but you better have the guys if you are gonna try to bully somebody. Right now, we will be more of a pin and pull, more of the RPO system. Things where we can get angles in blocking and edges as fast as we can with either read or pulling linemen to get out there.”

Pittman details offensive philosophy

From what I understand, some vocal fans were very concerned with a return to Bert style football (which is not a lot different than what UGA runs). The above seems to indicate he is open to more modern concepts and the hiring of Kendall Briles supports that.
