Mullinz doesnt play underclassmen.

When the backups were Tim Tebow, Cam Newton and Dak Prescott, they still didnt play.

the senior QB plays, PERIOD.
I remember Tebow throwing a TD pass against the Suck Nuts his freshman year. He played a fair amount the year we won it all.

Cam backed up a Heisman Winner. Of course he sat.

It would be interesting to see the respective offensive efficiency rankings of each QB when in, but that article reads as though it was written by a high schooler with a C average. Does SI no longer employ editors? Just wow.

Play the Man that gives us the best chance to win. After seeing Franks/Trask play out last year I'm not sure Mullen knows which one that is.

We will not throw as much next year . Four senior pass catchers gone along with an improved line likely means more work for Emory and the backs . Pitts of course along with Copeland came in with Emory and have looked good on their time together . I know Dan will start Trask , but we will be tougher to defend with Emory as the starter .

Fair amount=89 snaps in 14 games

No doubt he was a game changer though. Mentally and physically.

Not so sure it will go down like that. Trask seemed pretty effective finding Pitts, Copeland, Toney, and Grimes when they were in the play and were the right read. They all back. Plus we have at least a couple promising red shirts hitting the field.

With the present o line, the only way Mullen runs more is when defenses overplay the passing game (eg UVA). How much Emory did we see against UVA despite Trask having an off night throwing?

If the offensive line gels in the running game next season, Trask is still the QB and just hands off a bit more.

Emory is the future (2021 and I predict he leads the Gators to a playoff berth in 2022), but he isn’t playing a lot of prime time snaps in 2020 unless Trask gets hurt or becomes ineffective.

The latter could happen if the line regresses at pass blocking due to injuries, or Trask could be schemed for now that SEC DC’s have more tape on him. I think that’s what Mendenhall attempted with some success on the bowl game, but Trask stayed in because the running game was there. Dan might counter with Emory, if he can’t get the running game going AND Trask is ineffective passing. In that case, big ambitions for the season are probably down the tube.

Trask has earned the starting job, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine EmJ closing the gap over the ensuing months. He’s a much better runner. He needs to build on his confidence in the pocket and protect the ball.

I don't buy for a minute that there is ANY chance Emory Jones could win the starting job. He could show up at practice and play like Tom Brady with legs and he wouldn't get the start.

You shouldn't need any more proof of that than the fact that Franks was playing over Trask for the entire time he was here. Good lord if Kentucky hadn't killed Franks halfway through the game it would have been another loss to Kentucky and perhaps to Auburn and/or South Carolina and we would already be seeing the "who's our next coach gonna be" threads.

I think most of the posters here are right. We will see more Emory Jones this year but not a ton more. I think there's a good chance Trask will get injured at some point judging by our history of QBs who get injured (like Trask 2 years ago) and Emory will have at least a couple of games to start. I also think that, if that does happen, there's a good chance we are going to be begging for Trask to heal up ASAP after watching Jones play a whole SEC game.

Trask deep ball? I’ve seen several articles highlighting that deep passes were his weakness. Short/Intermediate passes were his strength. Why his deep passes were incomplete can be left up for debate though.

Next year is a tough one. Just feels like EJ is the right move for the future but benching Trask after the year he put together sends a bad message. Trask’s limitations will likely cap what our offensive output can be.

I guess anything over the middle was considered deep since we seldom threw there prior to Trask.

Trask has been injured two of his three years... so luck isn't in his favor.

I’m 100% on board with giving Emory half of all FCS games and meaningful drives in all games with a 10+ point lead...we can’t make the mistake of not having him ready because A: Trask was lucky B: he’s the future and guaranteed 2 years of starting if he doesn’t have a monster JR year

The upside is almost worth just giving him the job if there’s no separation

He shorter quite a few of them. Not sure if it was arm strength, accuracy, or pressure. Maybe a combo?

Couldn’t agree more . Outside of Pitts we don’t have route runners that get open quickly like Van and Freddie . On top of being a great slot Freddie was as sure handed as it gets catching punts . I do think Pitts will get a dozen plus reps a game out wide if Zip and Gamble are as good as I think they can be .
Van and Freddie are our biggest losses on O in my opinion . On D I think we will miss Reese the most . I feel good about guys like Bogle and Cox being able to produce similar results as big Jon .

I like EJ as well, but you can’t take the trash out unless he stinks. He proved himself this year and made me way more of a believer than I was before. I hope EJ doesn’t transfer, but if he does oh well we have AR15 or whatever the hell they are calling him nowadays
