Thats a lot of good fortune. Could also say he, like most good coaches, takes advantage of situations that present themselves. I seriously doubt Urban Meyer didn’t leverage certain situations to bring in top flight guys.

I’m more concerned with the inability or flat out refusal to create those opportunities where needed. I would love to see his season end review of a Knox or English. It can’t be good yet there is absolutely no sign that he’s even thinking about upgrading.

I think its pretty obvious what's been going on and what continues to happen. Basically every new hire since his initial staff assembly has been an upgrade, but nobody has been let go. The new upgrades only came after someone left for another job on their own. He's not going to get rid of anyone unless something egregious happens that forces his hand. As long as knox and english try real hard and keep their noses clean we are probably stuck with them because Lord knows no one else is gonna come offering them a better job or better pay. Mullen clearly sees the need for upgrades we all see because he makes an upgrade each time the opportunity presents itself. The problem is he's not willing to initiate the opportunity; only to wait for one to materialize on its own. He's just plain too loyal. Time to find some pictures of knox and english with a goat, or better yet, just knox and english.

Given the swiftness of this hire, I wonder if Scott had gotten a “Start looking” directive from Mullen. That’s what I’ve done when a good person needs to go but I’d rather not fire them.

That was a rumor and not official just like bell
it's on his Wikipedia that makes it official.

I get it we're struggling to find something positive, a bit like announcing that shorter "committed" on NSD even though he had already committed weeks prior.

The main positive I took was getting Princely. We lost a 170lb DB and got a decent-sized DE who should grow. Rather have gotten both, but choosing one I would take the DE.

Lingard needs to be a win and one or two or three of our 36 rush ends will need to learn to play inside LB.

So has this been officially announced?

All of the UNC writers are reporting it and they aren’t sourcing footballscoop when they do. Mullen said he is shifting responsibilities around. We may not see anything from UF until that is worked out.

I can see Mullen using Brewster to coach up his coaches on how to be better recruiters as a way to avoid firing/demoting his friends and replacing them with good recruiters. Not sure if that will work. Can't believe this is who we ran of Seider for. Probably the worst mistake in Mullen's career.

I am going out on a limb here, but maybe in Mullen's mind, if he remains loyal to his terrible assistants, he also attracts good assistants because they know their job will always be secure? Could that explain his success getting Turner, Gray and Brewster rather easily? I don't think these positions were vacant very long and he quickly fills it with quality hires.

When it comes to telling a pal to hit the road Mullin gets a frog in his throat. Well, he needs to hop to it and ribbit up.
