As our Prez Dr. Fuchs says " Our goal is become the next Vanderbilt University both in academics and baseball". "To accomplish this goal we need one more NC and this new stadium is the first step". No he didn't say that ,and it was simply a parody. But you get the picture. Plus we will have beer. :)

Without a new baseball field we'd never have a place for the All in One, right?
It is fvkking baseball. We could have dozed the GD field and started working immediately on the football facility, and played a few baseball games at the Santa Fe or GHS. The 14 fans wouldnt care. parking is easier. And the baseball team care either. they are getting a Taj Mahal built with 20000 empty seats.

Just like we had basketball play somewhere else for a while.

EDIT: look, I want a baseball players to have what they need. I was a baseball player once. it's a fun sport, but very hard to watch. However I don't understand why we're building a facility with 10 (or is it 50) times the seats that we need for them. We could put up a small portion of the project design in a way that's modular and you can add later if we happen ever to need it. we aren't building a new swamp with hundreds of empty sky boxes and 940,000 seats.

it wouldn't actually frustrate me so much if we did this overkill facilities on football too, which obviously we don't. In fact we're told we should be happy that they painted the locker room and added LEDs.

Stricklin’s a baseball guy and an outsider. I’m sure he’ll tell anyone he gets it about the value of Florida football, but this was simply a bad administrative call even if the football people were supposedly given the final say-so over the order of things.

There’s an elaborate baseball stadium being built at precisely the time we’re desperately trying to get back into the football discussion absent top-notch facilities.

Not a good look.

somehow they feel if we're going to spend 50 million on football at some point we have our first have to spend 50 million on softball, 50 million arms baseball, and 50 million on gymnastics first.

I’m happy we’re getting a kick-ass baseball venue...but I agree we should’ve played elsewhere while the football facility was being done. We ain’t playing catch-up in baseball.

for what its worth comment:

I live in Ocala and have had baseball season tickets since 1998. I use to go to a lot of Gator football games but baseball is more laid back and a whole lot less expensive. I get up to about half of the midweek games and 2/3 of the weekend series. As expected, attendance is better when we are good and worse when we are bad. That can also be extrapolated to the teams we play (better or worse) and the weather (better or worse). I don't have the statistics in front of me but a decent game's attendance may be about 2,000 and a good game's attendance is 4 to 5 thousand. Since we play a pretty tough schedule I am guessing it is pretty common to have 3,000 or more.

In order to understand why the money and time are being invested in a new stadium it is important to note several factors:
1. Our baseball facilities are lagging behind the rest of the conference
2. Florida is rated by many baseball writers to be the best program in the country over the past 10 years
3. Keeping Sully is a priority (not necessarily to me but I wont go into that here)
4. The biggest reason is for expansion of the football facility which requires wiping out McKethan

One reason I love Gator Baseball is exemplified in two kids that I have watched play at McKethan

Past: David Eckstein who won 2 world series, a world series MVP and a 2 time all-star.
Memory Lane: Boston Red Sox draft infielder David Eckstein

Present: Pete Alonso just won the MLB Home Run Derby, played for the NL in the MLB all star game, set a new NL single season rookie home run record and won the NL rookie of the year.
Pete Alonso, 1B, New York Mets

Send us some pics of 2-5k people at the game this season.

Are we really going to argue over the mean progression, something like 3,500 fans? I mean, come on.
