Who To Blame for where we are now

I was talking with a family member the other day and we got to talking about Florida and where it was to where we are now and how we got here....we talked about the normal culprits but then it occurred to me, we are blaming the wrong faction.

Those we like to blame:

Meyer
Foley
Muschamp

There are those out there who believe Meyer left the cupboard bare which put Muschamp in a hole; watching Muschamp, who arguably was the worst HC we have ever had take a team to 11 wins simply nullifies that argument as he was leaning heavily on players recruited by Urbs.

Then we take a look at Foley; questionable hires in both Zook and Muschamp; however, he does fire the guy when he sees the product failing although he held onto Muschamp one year too long. Foley will be judged further on how McElwain turns out.

Lastly Muschamp, now this isn't about me defending him. He had no business being a HC at Florida, it's like handing the keys to a Ferrari to a 16 year old kid and not expecting anything bad to happen. Muschamp buried this program, that damn midline....

So who is to blame? None of these individuals. They all helped get to where we are now but the blame in my opinion lies on one guy and one event.

The date: Nov 21, 2008
The person: Cam Newton

The day he was charged with theft.

Newton was removed from the team, transferred to Auburn, and the rest is history.

What would have happened had this never transpired?

I believe that Cam would have taken the reigns of the Gator offense instead of John Brantley and he could have repeated the same success he had at Auburn. We win another championship or at least get close to one. Urban never leaves. We still remain on top of the SEC and the nation. Instead here we are, with a lot of positive mojo but now for sure outcomes while Urbs is playing for the title with a third-string QB and talented team that he has built.

Newton is not the reason for where we are now. It is SOS's fault. He built up our expectations and the pressure to win big is too much for any coach to handle here.

I blame Tebow, if he never graduated we'd be golden. :dance2:

If Kerwin Bell doesn't persuade Brantley to reconsider UF, he probably ends up at Texas, and I can just about guarantee that Newton stays. It also unclogs our QB depth chart, which means it's much more likely that we end up with a better QB in that '09 class than Reed, and almost certainly in 2010. Part of me thinks that if we continued rolling, Meyer doesn't leave and things never bottom out the way they did. That said, he's clearly a midwest/B10 guy who may have made that jump any way. But I honestly think Tebow, followed by a year or 2 of Cam would've led to better things and almost certainly another title.

And Brantley's family, don't forget the role they played in getting him to reconsider Florida. Texas was a better fit for him, but the Brantley's are a UF family.

Yeah, I'm sure they didn't help matters. Ftr, I'm not "blaming" Bell because he had our best interest at heart and obviously felt it would be a good move for both sides. I was just pointing out how huge that decision proved to be, and the ramifications we've seen since.

Brantley regardless of how you feel about him as a player, wasn't a fit for Meyers system and would have fit better in the system run at Texas. It was decision that hurt both sides.

So it's Kerwin's fault!

I've heard rumors that his ankle wasn't even that bad in that '86 Auburn game. Just one big act to lure us in to his web.

He conned us Jerry, and he scored big time.

When you point a finger, that hand has three more pointing right back at you
When questioning where to begin, start with the man in the mirror

I agree SOS raised our expectations, we grew from fans accepting mediocre to fans demanding near perfection. We haven't had stability in coaching since SOS left us - I'd argue Urban's relatively long tenure was not stable given his retire-unretire-retire situation. And that instability at the HBC position comes from expectations of winning records and championship rings, that put us in position for a decline. So it's YOUR fault. And mine.

Ok, enough of that crap. Are we still blaming Obama for stuff? Or going all the way back to Bush? Can I blame the internet (and therefore Al Gore?), and UGA for pasting Jort pictures all over the place? I want to blame Janikowski for giving FSU life again after so mane Wide Left-Right-Left experiences, reviving their 'we are back' mentality. I want to blame my mother ....wait, where's my therapist?

Before we even get to all the reasons why your theory is flawed, maybe we should start by clarifying the fact that Newton did not leave school because of the theft charge. He left school shortly before he was dismissed from school for multiple counts of academic cheating.

If you take the time to develop an elaborate theory, you might want to consider doing some research before moving forward.

It's not like putting the keys to a Ferrari in a 16 year olds hands...it's like putting it into a 90 year old blind woman's hands. A 16 year old would at least push the vehicle to it's limits and go too fast...muschamp would drive 10 mph in a 65 mph zone with his emergency blinkers while everyone else passed him by
