no one wants to answer this question, because it opens them up. Who is even on the list besides fleck? A guy who has never recruited the SE and has never coached big boy football?

I don't get fans who think Mullen isnt cutting it...we literally have went from 4-7 to back to back NY6 wins. Are we still behind the top tier, yes...but to get back there it wont come overnight and this generation has a hard time accepting that.

The problem with this argument, is that in 2017 do you believe we only have 4 win talent and McElwain did well, or did we have 10 win talent and McElwain seriously underperformed. Because if it's the later than having a 10 win team is do what was expected with the schedule he ran.

We had 8 win talent on that team. It showed up against Mizzou and overpeformed against LSU.

Sorry, meant the 2017 team, the 4 win team that people keep comparing to. But I disagree, with the schedule that we had in 2018, we have a 9/10 win team. Said it before the season as well. It did show up against an poorly coached LSU team, but didn't show up and was undercoached when we played Kentucky and Missouri. But the coaching was Mullen's coaching job as a Gator in 2018's game against UGA, he was just completely out talented and depthed.

Sorry man just going to have to disagree about the '18 team. We had a virtual unknown and lack of fit at QB in Franks with no viable backup. We had a decent set of RBs and a few receivers and we were still dealing with depth issues from Mac. The '17 team was probably a 7-8 win team also. I think Mullen coached more out of the '18 team than they had in them.

Going forward with Mullen's guys and especially this year with the schedule, we should win 11 games at minimum. Anything less is a disappointment. '22-'23 should be the years we're really good.

Cop out answer..."heRr DuRr, OnLy AdS kNoW"

We both agree Mullen's recruiting needs to get better but out of the options presented in '17, we hired the best guy out there and so far the results of all the hires have proven that.

Coaching hires and candidates aren't some super secret "black-book" type of deal. Candidates/hires are leaked ALL of the time. Whether they're for salary increases or genuine interest, a list of names always appear. We know for a fact Chocolate Chip and Frostee were mentioned candidates. The others who knows but looking at all of the hires made in the last few years, I fail to see any upgrade from what we have. I know this might be hard for you to believe but there aren't many Dabos, Saban's and Meyers out there.

The fact that you think Cristobal is a good coach and equal to Mullen is kind of funny really. He led a senior laden team in and got punched in the gut by Auburn who we beat and also Arizona St.

Cristobal looks great in a conference that is awful....not sure I need to remind you how "great" Taggart looked out there also

Damn, thanks for the kudos, but I dont really think my arguments are genius. Means a lot that one of the more respected posters on the board believes it though.
So let me rephrase. Who are the high ceiling coaches who you believe we should have hired? Anyone can answer that, right?

Was Utah a Top 10 team or were they overrated and propped up due to the conference they played in? Our losses are still better than theirs unless you think Georgia is equal to ASU which in your little mind you probably do. I like to look at head to head matchups...we dominated Auburn from start to finish and won the game. Oregon dominated the game and lost.

For a guy sucking off Cristobal, why not talk about his year prior to having a senior laden team? 44-15 loss to Sumlin? Ouch. 32-25 to unranked Utah? Wooo they beat MSU 7-6 in the Redbox bowl. Want to continue this? Talent wise, we have a higher talent level of guys coming in from this class; sure they did sign 3 five star guys but also loaded up with 12 three star guys but yeah talent would be improving "ten-fold" from where we are.

You and Nole Donkey need a room

Are you putting Wisconsin and Utah in the same neighborhood as lsu and uga? I'll give you Wisconsin, but Utah's best win was Arizona st?

Gundy is an interesting one honestly. Not really sure what the guy would do outside of Okie Lite. I actually feel the same way about Leach, how would he do in a real conference - at least the Leach question will finally be answered.

Bingo....I'd argue Wisconsin isnt even an LSU or Georgia but that's because I don't in a team that didn't have to play Penn St and lost to Ohio St and Illinois. Outside of Ohio St, did Wiscy play anyone remotely elite? No.

Wisconsin isn't LSU or Georgia (closer to Georgia though) might be Auburn though. A one dimensional team that when it's working it's working and when it isn't they are toast.
