This issue needs its own thread away from cord cutters thread imo as it is a huge factor and expense over and above which access provider fits your needs best...Hulu, YouTube tv....etc....

Usually a city has a franchise deal with a Comcast type provider to use telephone poles and the like which makes this deal a monopoly much to our dismay and pocketbook. T mobile is rolling out a limited available home internet system today which prompts this thread. Below is a suggested template for supplying info:

City:
Provider:
Monopoly?:
Speed Mbps down/up:
Price/month incl. tax and equip:
Special price yes or no:
Regular price:
Limits if any in Gigabytes:

Any pertinent information in discussion form that you think would be helpful about future plans for your city that will help us fight these damn monopolies like Comcast!

City: Tallahassee
Provider: T mobile OTA coming soon to limited areas
Monopoly?: no
Speed Mbps down/up: 50/not sure
Price/month incl. tax and equip: $50 tax incl...plus gateway purchase or rental
Special price yes or no: permanent price
Regular price:
Limits if any in Gigabytes: unlimited

This will blow Comcast out of business imo if they can make it work. I went online and signed up for the waiting list. I have no idea how close they are to serving Tallahassee with their mini-towers placed on telephone poles about every 1000-1200 feet. I called their 800 number and got a human quickly, but they had no map to refer to for availability information.
I would prefer faster speeds, but can live with 50 Mbps just to be able to tell Comcast to kiss my ass.

They will start with 4G LTE for that, and will transition it to 5G as it becomes more available, to provide much faster speeds.
Question will be, will the pricing change a lot...

Don't forget what Elon Musk is doing to try to provide internet via satellite everywhere. I haven't heard anything on capabilities of it yet though

I would kill for 10 Mbps down......up doesn't matter because I'm not running a server. :)
