White must have loved Gators' style this game - the inside game was sacrificed to shoot more from outside. It worked tonight because our shooters were sharp. In future games that will let us down and we'll have not insisted on feeding it inside, then the other team will go inside to take 60% likely shots and White's boys will be clanging it.
We shot 60 per cent on two pointers, yet our "expectation value" was higher on three pointers (1.3 on three pointers, 1.2 on two pointers). Also killed them on the boards, perhaps a more significant development.

In games we lost our 3-pt shooting =
FSU .... 4-22
UConn .... 5-20
Butler ..... 6-26
Utah St. ... 4-17
Mizzou .... 10-23
LSU .... 11-30
Baylor ... 4-17
MSU .... 8-21
Ole Miss .... 5-23

.............. 57-199 ..... 20.9%
Did we overshoot on 3s because none believed in going inside where hitting 60% is typical?
We've got plenty of tough games ahead. Then the SEC tournament.

Ball movement was great at times last night. They made Nebo disappear in the 2nd half. Locke was lights out. He loves playing TAMU..... Win on the road is always good. I have tix for Vandy. I will NOT CHANT "we want billy we want billy."

Any road conference win is a good win, but seeing all the other SEC games at times this week is frustrating b/c this league was there for the taking. A&M looked like they did the first month of the season. That is not the Gators fault, you play who you play and when, but A&M is awful. I was surprised at how terrible they are defensively. They are extremely unathletic and can't play that style defensively with that group. But kudos to the guys for exposing it and taking advantage of what was given to them. Really want to see some good performances against above average teams before I believe we have a chance in the tourney.

Wow obviously a much needed win for this team. Road win blowout are VERY rare in college basketball even though it was against a crap team. Good to see our guys not give up on the season and actually buckle down on defense. TAM is a team that only allows 63 points a game and we shattered that with 78 last night. Our offense was crisp at times and we were able to get what we wanted inside and out. Our trio of sophomores had a great game and have really developed overall this season and have been better. KJ had 10 and 10. Nemb with 24 points and Locke continuing his hot shooting throughout conference play with 21 points.

This team is clearly going to live and die by the 3.

I don't think we have much of a choice. Our guards aren't really fast/powerful slashers or anything. Our only real slashers that can take it to the hoop are Keyontae and Scottie... occasionally Nembhard, and then we have one big man that can score down low. We have to get the points from somewhere. Our main problem is that once we start missing shots we start losing energy. We need to expect to miss 5 or so threes in a row every now and then, and know that it means we still need to play good defense and not get frustrated with refs. The bad calls always feel worse when the shots aren't falling. Play through Blackshear as much as possible and if you miss an open three don't let it change how you play on defense or on offense the next time you have the ball. I can not tell you how many times I have seen a player miss and open three and then pass up an open three next time down the court only for it to result in a worse shot or turnover.

I have to give credit where credit is due...we played a really good game last night. The ball movement along with pass/shot fakes made us look like we actually might have an elite offense if we can keep it up. I think A&M played about as good of a first half as they could play (lots of 3's going in from 20% 3-point shooters), but we were still winning at halftime. We didn't fold in the first half when we went down a couple of times. Very few bad shots were taken in that game. I love that Tre Mann is finally taking Ques Glover minutes. I like the energy we get from Ques but when you have a point guard who is always the shortest guy on the court (defensive liability), and can't shoot very well, and turns the ball over a lot...just no. He's not ready yet. Tre Mann's shot is going to start falling eventually (it would be nice if it were sometime this year), and that is going to make a huge difference. His defense and confidence has gotten a lot better and that is the hardest hump to get over.

I'm sure after our next game I will feel dejected again but that game gave us glimpses of what this team could be if they play like this through March. If we do continue to play like this, I pity the high seed that sees us in the 2nd round. Probably a pipe dream but I'll keep smoking that gator basketball crack until I see our name left off the board on selection Sunday.

Next up we play Vandy at home on the day Billy D court is revealed. We better not feel dejected.

Nice win to build on. Hopefully we will be able to go on a streak here, how long it will last is hard to say. We've already proven we can play with the top teams in the conference so anything is possible. I think it will be funny if we do get in the tourney as a 10 or 11 seed because that's going to piss off the top seeds in that quadrant just based on our roster talent.

Payne seemed to be improving and gaining PT, what has happened to make him so irrelevant the last 3-5 games?

A few games back Payne maybe had his best game. During his post game interview, with the two side by side, White sort of crawfished around when given the opening to heap a lot of praise on him. I wonder what the deal is.:scratchchin:

Everyone notices it. The local radio guys here see it in White's pressers and were talking about it this week. And, they are his biggest defenders. He rarely praises his players. Everything is always their fault. I don't think he relates to them at all. The comeback win against UGly is a perfect example. Teams finish wins with a dunk all the time. I see it every week. As the seconds ticked, Scottie went to dunk the ball and White flat out lost it. He was screaming at him. In the video, you can see it actually caught Lewis off guard.

@Frozen Gator , gator beat writer Chris Harry is on local radio here in Jacksonville. Harry said the problem with Omar Payne is loafing. White won't reward players who play hard one minute and loaf the next.

My response? White has had this type of attitude problem with players 3 years in a row. I've said this before. At some point, this is White doing something wrong to foster these kinds of attitudes.

Maybe recruits players without winning attitudes. How exactly does a coach instill an attitude not to play hard all the time?

A decent coach pushes all players with encouragement; he should especially concentrate on developing a 6'10' great wingspan Center, also any 6'11" 288 lb Jitoboh. Those 2 are godsends for our program. White will waste them until they are gone. They'll be gone, White won't.

Lol, Larry Vetell calling anyone a moron. Like beating a 10-10 team is the Gator standard now. Has he even been paying attention to the direction of the program?

It would be hasty (but not moronic) to fire White if any of the following things happen because they would suggest progress potentially reversing the almost linear decline of the program under him:
1) UF beats UK at least once, takes LSU, and doesn’t lose to any of the mediocre teams on the remaining schedule; makes a run to the SEC tournament finals; makes the dance and looks like they belong making at least the Sweet 16 AND all of the eligible players return.
2) UF makes a deep NCAA run (Elite 8). If it happens twice in 5 years then it’s not just lightning in a bottle.

Im looking for some evidence the team improved and gelled enough to play up to a top 10 level. If that happens then my concerns are undermined and I will change my mind.

Otherwise, the trajectory of the program is clearly down over the period he’s been here.
