Bammer is like rehab for failed coaches. I don't see why some are so upset. CS was likely never coming here.

Charlie should plan on UF being his last stop someday as a retired ambassador/consultant. He’s beloved but another recycle here at this point adds little. It’s the smart move if he still wants to coach. He’s too young to let that go.

I wonder if there’s a TideDonkey out there decrying him as having a “Gaytor” stench they should never allow in their buildings?

This is just it, being an analyst for Bama lately has moved people into coordinator positions. An analyst here, not as high profile as an analyst at the machine which is Bama's staff right now.

Do we even know if Mullen wanted him here as anything?? Seems a lot of pissing and moaning over a tweeter post that I have never seen confirmed.

Oh, I think we're all pretty sure Mullen didn't want him. Or Kerwin Bell. Or anyone else who could help the team for very little money.

It's been speculated since he was OC here - Mullen has an enormous ego, one of the biggest in the country. I can't imagine how big it could get if he actually accomplished something of substance on the field.

I don’t care how big his head gets, I want hats. I won’t buy a Gator hat unless it marks an SEC or national championship.

I think in order to be successful at almost any job you need to have a bit of an ego. The last thing I want is a coach with confidence issues.

Sabanesque.
It is the exact opposite.

One is a champion and dynasty maker who still strives to make his team better every single day.

The other is a douchebag who has never won anything and still thinks he knows it all and doesnt need to make his pathetic staff better.

The Donkey makes a pretty good point. Saban NEVER stops trying to improve. As soon as he wins a title, he's thinking about the next one. He's never satisfied, will do anything to win. He seems to know as many smart minds as possible in the program is very wise - he's not threatened by it.

I just think Mullen is threatened by other coaches. He's not the kind of guy that adds ex-head coaches to his staff. I personally don't think he likes Spurrier around, either. I don't know if it's just insecurity or a power trip or what.

I think this is a good summation all around. I really have not been following this story that closely b/c I just do not think it is that important. I chalked it up to people genuflecting over Charlie b/c he once coached here and that is our the majority of the fan base is. If the guy picked his nose in G'ville then he must be good. Why anyone thinks this is "home" to Charlie is beyond me.

But I agree regarding Cousin Eddie. This is a head job that Charlie wanted badly more than once and many fans wanted Charlie. So to be passed over as a candidate multiple times and now to go and work in a closet for one of those guys who was selected over you would seem difficult to me.

Pah lease, he went to saban to improve his resume. Once he gives bama a year he can get back out there and be a hc again like all the other nitwit retreads that saban has saved
