Pierce will start day 1 since he knows the system. After him, it is wide open. He most certainly could get snaps. I think it will be between him and Lingard. What about Clement? Are we overlooking him?

I really think that if Lingard gets a red shirt and if we land Evans those guys will take the bulk of the carries by the end of the year. I like Pierce as a back but he's nothing special.

No chance! If you know Mullen at all you know he don't like playing true freshman on offense. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him redshirt, and end up in the portal before the end of the year.

Mullen is just to calculated of a coach to take risks like Saban or Dabo. Imo it's one of the reasons he struggles to bring the elite talent on offense. These kids see from the past that they wont get much playing time their fr year so they go somewhere that they will play.

I actually think Evans is a different kid. I mean we do know that if Dan really thinks the kid fits the system, can play, and knows the playbook, he will play. Maybe not start but will get touches. I agree about not playing the younger guys on offense more though.

He just plays whomever is senior. I suspect he got beat out by an underclassman in college and is still bitter about it.

Seniority right now is:
Davis RJr
Pierce Jr
Clement RSo
Wright So

The carries will mostly look like that too.

Except EJ will be the #2 rusher.

I think the more accurate answer would be “it depends.” If he comes to in with a great attitude, learns the playbook, and can pass block, then yes he’ll compete. If he ends up enrolling at UF he will be the most talented back on the roster - by a lot - and too talented to keep off the field. These are a lot of “ifs” however; the biggest is him coming to UF, with him having a great attitude a close second. I don’t like our chances of either being the case.

Pierce: 54 Att's
Davis: 34 Att's...

So now all of a sudden Davis is going to get more carries? Especially with more talented backs in the fold? For a lawyer, you're pretty bad at research.

Davis was hurt but he seems to have some issues. I'm not sure if he sticks. perhaps he rejoins Butters.

No chance in hell Davis gets more carries than Pierce. I think Pierce will be solid, but that is it. I assume Lingard will be cleared, but might not. If he isn't, I guess it is Davis by default which sucks. Who knows how Mullen decides to deal with Evans and his attitude issues. That kind of attitude problem may get him a redshirt just to humble the kid. I don't know. He's a huge risk for a reason.

Davis was healthy all of last season. Stop moving the goal posts. Pierce received more snaps in the fall and at the start of a season because he's a better back.

Lingard has a strong chance at a waiver. If we land Evans, he's already better than anyone at that position on the roster and just needs to keep his attitude in check and learn the playbook and he will be receiving carries. You're right though, Davis I think will transfer.

Research is for pansies. All very stable geniuses just "know" things. Facts are for lesser beings.

He’s just trolling. He listed the backs in order of seniority; to mock CDM I suspect.

Nahhh, he isn't healthy. At the very least, he doesn't trust his knee. He doesn't look like the same kid at all.

I guess the other option is he's just in the doghouse and the staff thinks he doesn't know the playbook or whatever. Like I said it won't surprise me if he leaves. It's too bad, he looked very promising at one point.

I did mean to put slashes between the Juniors and sophomores but I was doing other stuff and didn't go back amend it.

I don't expect Lingard to get a waiver and I fully expect Evans to red shirt. EJ will probably get more carries this year and that'll bite into the apple.

Probably doesn't trust his knee which is what we all suspected. Either way, even when in the game, fumble issues and missed blocking assignments. Reason why Pierce played, better back.

I agree that it is highly unlikely that Evans will start on day one, for all the obvious reasons. I believe your other contentions are reasonably well-founded, but fail to take into consideration that few true freshmen are physically or mentally ready for extensive play right from jump - especially in the SEC. I also recall that Tebow and Harvin got considerable freshmen reps as the season wore on due to the enormous talent they both possessed. But Mullen is certainly hesitant to throw a freshman to the wolves, and may in fact be cautious to a fault. Of course, talents like Evans are few and far between and we can only hope that DM gets the chance to bring him along "too slowly." That would be a high quality problem if ever there were one.

Under normal circumstances I would say Evans wouldn’t get more than his redshirt snaps year 1. But the situation we’re in is far from Mullen’s “normal”. We just went through the bulk of the season with no real threat to run whatsoever. That has to be eating Mullen up inside.
The fact that we are even talking to this kid, changing his primary recruiter with all his “baggage” speaks to Mullen’s desperation to get rushing production. What may change things is the transfer rule that went down yesterday. If this clears a path for Lingard to be full go, not only Davis but possibly Wright or Clement could be gone as well.
If Brewster gets Evans here it will make Mullen’s task of justifying Knox kinda difficult to those that write the checks. That’s one more reason I hope he gets on board.
I’ll put in another post with some new info I got from my Cowbell acquaintance. Some is encouraging, some not so much. I’ll try to get it put together tonight.

The first year after that kind of injury it's not right, it's the second year we will see if he is truly back. Trusting the blown knee is the hardest part.

Take Evans (if we can) and look ahead to 21 is my opinion...they (Corey Bender) said UF prob wouldn’t even send an LOI according to ppl he’s spoken to...Kiffin is back to his old ways...I hope we can shut his mouth for at least this season on the field ...Ol Joey Freshwater is wily

I honestly don’t want Britt. We signed a good class at DB and possibly oversigned without him. We got a lot of highly talented DB in 21 looking at us we’re just fine without him

LOL. To each his own my friend. I have a very busy full life and I come here to take a break from real life, get Gator news, recruiting insight, and maybe read a unique opinion or two. I don’t come on here to read someone spew nonsensical venom with wildly inaccurate hyperbole about my team. And it’s consistent, it’s wrong, and just because he’s been with you guys for years and he’s one of “yours” does t mean he’s not annoying as crap to many others. This is obvious by the few times I’ve said something I get a lot of likes for my posts. Not because of me, but because I believe there are many who lurk and don’t post and grow weary of the overly negative tone of the board, spearheaded by SD. He could be a great guy, don’t know him at all, but what we posts is consistently factually wrong, and he literally seems to try to stir up fellow Gators by bashing the program he “loves”. I’m no pumper, but if you can’t see that we are on the right track, that each recruiting class had gotten better, that 21 class looks to be a top 5 class, stand alone facility coming in 2 years, we just finished 11-2, our instate rivals are down, we have a legit top 10
Coach, then I don’t need to consistently read your overly negative crap. And frankly I guess what did it for me is the constant Mullen bashing. Crap the guy isn’t perfect but he’s been as good as ANYONE expected him to be or better. He’s a great X and O coach who wants to be here. Look at Chip Kelly and Scott Frost and see if you’d trade. I personally wanted both over Mullen and am now eating humble pie.

Anyway I’ll go back to lurking mostly since apparently to be a true Gator you have to be somewhat negative and cynical about anything good happening. Luckily there are some posters on here that bring recruiting info and for those of you I sincerely thank you. Go Gators

Don't go back to lurking. Help those you know are here, who don't get off on bashing our own program, AD, coaches and players (refusing to give the most common curtesy of calling someone by their name, but instead giving as many as you can derogatory nick names). There are plenty of members who are mostly balanced, but still give quarter to this shameful excuse for a fan. There are other great posters who are calling out this behavior. Stay and help the board be better. I'm sure I won't agree with everything you say, but I'd rather have more posters that at least know to treat the team they claim to root for.

Cue the eye-rolls...
