With all the talent he pulls in, you’re absolutely correct. Unfortunately he doesn’t and that’s the problem.

From D1 Baseball's 2019 Top 100 Programs rankings. I think I'll take their word for it over GatorInDwagja's.

1. Florida
florida.png

2017 Rank: 1. In our postseason success formula, Florida and Vanderbilt were neck-and-neck — and then there was a big gap between everybody else. Vandy was No. 1 in these rankings in 2015 (while Florida was No. 3). In 2017, the Gators were No. 1, while the Commodores were No. 2. Clearly, these two programs are entrenched at the top of the college baseball world, and we debated the top spot ad nauseam. Vanderbilt has one big advantage: it now has two national titles in the last five years, while Florida has one. And Vandy is the reigning national champ, while Florida barely snuck into regionals and exited quietly in 2019. But the Gators get the edge for making seven trips to Omaha this decade, compared with Vandy’s four. Florida went four years in a row from 2015-18, winning it all in 2017. Reaching Omaha with that kind of frequency is extremely hard to do, and it’s even harder to combine that consistency with a national title (something that has eluded fellow CWS regulars like Louisville, TCU, Arkansas and North Carolina, to name a few). When it comes to recruiting and development, Florida and Vanderbilt are head and shoulders above everybody else; both of them bring in incredible riches year after year after year, and both of them produce first-round picks by the bushel. Nobody develops and protects premium arms better than Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan, who has led the Gators to regionals in each of his 12 seasons in Gainesville. Vanderbilt’s institutional aid is an advantage, but Florida has the advantage of being a public school in one of the nation’s richest baseball hotbeds. Vandy has done nice work to improve its facility over time, but Florida is only a year away from moving into a brand-new $65 million palace. Ultimately, it’s almost a coin toss between these two college baseball Goliaths. But Florida’s incredible run of seven CWS trips in 10 years and four in the last five years ultimately tipped the scales in its favor. — Aaron Fitt

Spoken like somebody who doesn't watch much baseball, and probably never played it either. Vandy has outrecruited us most years, yet they only have a couple of NCs in the last decade. Fire the Vandy coach right!?

I am critical of Sully often regarding some of his in game decisions, etc., but it is a little above and beyond to be critical of having not won the World Series a majority of times they get there. Baseball is very pot luck and to think you are going to be heads and shoulders above 7 other teams who are all playing as well as you at that time, is not overly realistic.

I am just thankful for the fact that for the price, it is probably the best value on campus year in/year out. And hope all will come out and enjoy the SEC home slate this season: Vandy, Ole Miss, UGA, A&M and Mizzou, make up our 5 SEC home series this season. Check out the rankings and join me in thinking what a sweet home slate it is to see the top college baseball teams in the country for almost nothing. Watching a pretty decent number of guys on these 6 teams who will one day be in the bigs sounds good to me. And I am not even a huge pro baseball fan.

BTW for those who have not been to the MAC yet this year, they are now selling BEER at the concession stands. Not cheaply, but for those who like cold brew while watching baseball. the MAC has it. Now one can of beer is more than the price of a ticket, but hey......

It’s more the way the team seems to flame out much earlier than they should that gets me. Being so talented yet often pulling “0-2, it’s time for BBQ” is very frustrating, especially when the post-season losses seem to be the result of stupid coaching decisions and being unprepared is what gets me.

That's baseball. The best team doesn't always win.

I still expect A) our coaches to not forget how to coach in the post-season and B) for our team to be competitive. Having one of the best rosters in the nation consistently yet getting knocked out by lesser teams (often losing our first 2 games) is really the issue. Sully has flopped terribly many years when he shouldn’t have. Had we been competitive in those years where we didn’t go all the way rather than flaming out, I’d be more forgiving.

Hey people, there’s a reason that pro baseball is a 162 game season. Winning 60% plus of your games is a big deal. Anything more than that is ridiculous. But that’s why they are playing best 4 out of 7 in the last two rounds. The very best teams can be beat on any given night.

With the CWS, you have 8 pretty evenly matched teams playing a tourney where you lose two and you’re out. Best team only sometimes wins. That being said, a good college coach is responsible for giving his team the opportunity by making the final eight. Sullivan is as good as anybody at providing that opportunity to his players.

Name a better college baseball coach active today that you’d trade sully for?

Sorry if MOM... The baseball sweep of miamuh was the final piece of the big 3 sweep over the caines this year. Whether you're an all-sports guy or football only, that news has to be music to your Gator ears... unless you're just too young to understand the rivalry.

The only other sport that I know the Gators played Miami was soccer. The Gators beat them in that game, too.
