Hey people, there’s a reason that pro baseball is a 162 game season. Winning 60% plus of your games is a big deal. Anything more than that is ridiculous. But that’s why they are playing best 4 out of 7 in the last two rounds. The very best teams can be beat on any given night.

With the CWS, you have 8 pretty evenly matched teams playing a tourney where you lose two and you’re out. Best team only sometimes wins. That being said, a good college coach is responsible for giving his team the opportunity by making the final eight. Sullivan is as good as anybody at providing that opportunity to his players.

Name a better college baseball coach active today that you’d trade sully for?
You will not win this argument with GatorinGeorgia.

He believes getting knocked out of the tournament in your fifth game of the Regionals is better than sweeping your way into the CWS and going 0-2 there. He has some mental disconnect with the phrase 2 and BBQ. He cannot comprehend how it is better to go 2 and BBQ in the CWS every year than to lose before you get there every year, so long as you don't go 2 and BBQ.

He actually suggested that we fire Sully and replace him with 2 guys that have both been retired for years now. Or that we somehow beg the coach of Vandy (who is really the only comparable in the nation to Sully) to leave his job where he has a massive recruiting advantage due to "Opportunity Vanderbilt."

He has no clue. Don't waste your energy.

And he comes to the baseball thread to b###h and moan right after we sweep the number one team in the country. Literally, THE SAME DAY.

Yes, he'll dismiss the accomplishment due to it being regular season and not in the CWS.

But if that is your take, go away and don't come back until we lose in the post-season. If you are going to hang in here and b###h all season about how we can only win in the regular season, get the f##k out. Come back when we lose in the CWS and make an a$$ of yourself or eat crow after we win it. But for now, STFU.

Shoot, I wish Sully, were he to get knocked out prior to the CWS, would get his guys to scrap & fight to make it competitive. As it stands, every year except last, when he exits the regionals it’s 0-2. Last year was 1-2, losing both games to world renowned powerhouse Dallas Baptist (didn’t Trask graduate from there?). Ditto for when he gets knocked out of the Supers...0-2.

Sully is an equal opportunity “0 & 2, it’s time for BBQ” kind of guy. He’s famous for it. “Sully’s World Famous BBQ”. Has a nice ring to it. Whaddya think? Hey, he could partner up with Mac for the sauce. Now that would be perty kewl.

C’mon. Now you’re embellishing. I didn’t come to this thread to start incessant biatching. I just pointed out that it’s a long season and post-season is what matters. I’ve been let down too many times with these great starts/great regular seasons only to watch us shiiat the bed when it counts.

It’s way too soon to call for his head. Need to wait, though, before we crown ourselves the greatest.

If Sully doesn’t bring home the title, he needs to go. If he wins it all, I’m in favor of keeping him...albeit with conditions. Things like increased supervision, accounting for his daily schedule to his boss in 15 minute increments every day, Monday-Friday, maybe a pay restructuring to have a lower guaranteed amount per year with the difference shifted to performance bonuses to name a few ideas that would work wonders.

I'm just waiting for someone to pop out and say I'm on Candid Camera.

This can't be a real post.

So Sully's won 7 of 8 Supers, but you don't think his teams scrap and fight; and your proof is the one he lost, he lost in two games by a combined 3 runs..... He's won 8 of 12 regionals, never losing as a top seed, yet he chokes and loses to inferior teams....

FYI, D1 Baseball ranks Baptist as the 28th best program in the country, and they were the higher seed last year. They're currently ranked 23rd and just won a road series over a ranked UNC team. You're showing your college baseball ignorance again, dwagja.

Like I said, if he goes all the way this year, I’m in favor of keeping him. Let’s see what happens before you get your panties in a wad.

We are essentially the baseball version of Clemson and Ohio State (under Urban) football level and someone is bytching we should fire the head coach. Like those teams, we have owned our rivals for years in a way not seen for (literally) decades, if ever. Then add to that the oddity of randomness on baseball outcomes compared to other sports where physical domination can be more manifest.

He’s trolling us all at this point. He doesn’t even believe it. Or he’s more dense than any on this board, which is saying a lot (not naming names - for now).

I may hate the UAA deflection of financial capability and use of baseball as a shield for doing the right thing for our golden goose football program, but Sully is our Donovan/Spurrier of baseball even if a few people don’t want to recognize it.

I have no qualms wishing away Gator coaches that deserve it (see White, Mike). But to wish away Sully is ludicrous. It’s like wanting BD gone because he couldn’t get past the second round of 64. Or like getting bored with SOS because he lost too often to Bowden, never went undefeated, and got truck rolled by Nebraska on the worlds biggest stage. Any coach can be criticized. Sully is very similar programmatically to those two Gator legends. We are watching a legend in the making. Enjoy it! Doesn’t happen very often.

He consistently has UF in high contention. He recruits very well, every cycle. His teams usually can win in a variety of ways. They are competitive and fun to watch. There’s a winners vibe. With that formula it is obvious he will eventually win a national championship... I mean second national championship.

So it’s CWS or bust for you? The stats say Sully is winning more than he’s losing in the regionals and supers... and oh btw he’s won a National Title... but you think last year is the second-to-the-last straw? What am I missing?

Considering that baseball’s a game that being successful only once every three bats can put you on the all-star team or in the HOF, we’re pretty lucky to have O’Sullivan and his record. Perfection is impossible in any sport, but as mentioned a 60% success rate in the majors is better than respectable. Owning Miami and F$U is also pretty great as far as I’m concerned. Nobody really knows how this or any season will eventually turn out, but I’m certainly encouraged!

I could list my gripes with Sully but many problems have been dealt with over time. The team was not tough and gritty for Sully's early years and still seem soft from time to time. He played favorites sometimes by playing certain players and leaving better players on the bench. I do not see that any more. The first and third base defensive coaching should be better. Craig Bell coaching third has cost us several games over the years but that has been fixed. Not having a batting coach has hurt us more than anything else.

It is important to remember, This is Sully's first head coaching job. He had a lot to learn and he has made pretty steady progress. He has won SEC championships, dominated Miami & FSU and brought home a national title. Sully is 27-15 against Vandy. If you find somebody better get your checkbook.

Wed. game with Stetson has also been cancelled. Next up is Troy this weekend at home. Worse thing about not having these 2 midweek games is that Sully had 5 or 6 bullpen arms that needed work. So I expect the 3 weekend starters to get a little less time this weekend and more bullpen guys getting work. Sure they can throw in practice, but it is not the same.
