OK boys and girls, lets see who has a true workhorse in the driveway or a Dinosaur from the past, mileage is what I'm looking for.

My daily Service Runner is a 2000 Chevy Astro Van with 292000 miles on it. I think I have replaced every moving part on this old girl, some multiple times. Of course it's mono white with homemade ladder rack, V6 power with 30psi oil pressure when warm. AC blows cold but have to turn on fan with toggle switch under hood. Have to carry 3 different keys to start and\or lock the doors. I carry 3 gallons of water everywhere I go(you know it has leaks). The radio works until I hit a pot hole then it takes a minute to turn back on, until the next hard bump. It gets about 20mpg on the highway but the moment I hang a trailer, any trailer, behind it, the mileage drops to about 12mpg. Electric windows work but electric locks died 10 years ago. I may post pictures but again, probably not because I know no one really cares about this old girl.
Several people have mentioned that driving this old truck reflects poorly on my business and that may be true but I've reached the point in life where IDGAD what others think about my old girl, she's paid for and get's me from A to B, usually..... Have a good day...

What's your business such that this would reflect badly on it?

How much longer you plan to be in this business?

I do specialized Electric Repairs. There are only 4 people in Florida that do the repairs I do and because of that, I always have work waiting for me. That allows for an exaggerated sense of independence on my part. Double edged sword..... I call myself semi-retired now so I really don't have an exit plan laid out. (No employees, no overhead, no debts)

So, image doesn't matter. Quality of work, and limited pool of people with your skill set means you don't have to impress anyone with the appearance of your work vehicle, only the job you do for them. Anyone else says it (the old vehicle) reflects badly on you can stuff it.

The reason for this was to evaluate the use of a newer vehicle, is the investment worth it? Sounds like 'no'. You could quit any day. Likewise, the van could bite the dust any day and no longer be fixable...would you be ok with that being the end of your part-time job?

The rape vans I see have Snap On plastered on the sides.

On one I saw a sticker on the 2nd step up that said "Past this point means compliance"
