By God Walter Hodge was HUGE in that game at least early. Chris Richard was huge off the bench. Corey was everywhere. My dad called him the drunken dribbler but I think Mick was the creator of that nickname. All of them were clutch at the right time. And OSU had REAL talent. The last comment on the replay was "some year for the gators, Jim. National champs in football,national champs in basketball..................unreal...........'

My biggest memory of this game was hearing Richards after Noah had fouled out and getting like his forth pleading with the refs " why the bigman getting all the calls why the bigman getting all the calls.

Hadn't watched in years. Forgot how hard the refs tried to give Ohio state this win.... the fouls down low... horrible. The one on Horford about 1:15 in is absolutely inexplicable. Theres one on Noah in the second half that's also a complete phantom foul on Oden.

That game honestly came down to us being on fire from 3 (cory brewer in particular) and OSU being dead cold from downtown. Otherwise, refs would have handed Ohio state a championship.

This team was so good, much like many of the SOS teams, that the refs were could not even turn the tide. Billy had 20 fouls to give for Oden. And used many of them. And it helped that Brewer was getting so many reb.

I have yet to watch any of the video but my recollection is of Horford being almost unstoppable with his back to the hoop. He emerged from that game as the most draft-worthy of all the 04s.

Honestly, without Brewer, we had no chance in that game. Horford was definitely the most talented of that group, but Brewer played out of his mind when it really counted

I remember I didn't get off of work until halftime...had to watch the second half from the employee food area, but winning the title made it so much better.

Chris Richards had a monster Final Four. He went 7-7 with 16 points against UCLA, then added 8 points and 8 boards against Ohio State and the refs.

He was SEC 6th man of the year and a Gator great who worked hard and steadily improved each season. He became one of the fan and teammates favorites while playing for the most overall likeable team we’ve had in my lifetime. He ended holding the Gator all time record for most games played. I wonder if he would have transferred his sophomore year in today’s era?

Actually without Richard we had no chance. He took the pressure off of Noah and Horford. The refs did their damn best to make sure Oden had a big game AND no fouls. It was disgusting to watch. Bob Knight would have thrown and 55 chevy pickup across the floor had he been coaching.

True. Richard was huge. The refs called 20 fouls on Ohio (4 on Oden) vs 19 fouls called on Florida, but 15 of them came against our bigs. This forced Donavon to play young Speights and he picked up 3 fouls in 6 minutes!

So, Donavan had 15 very high quality fouls to give ( refs took 12, 80% - fouling out Richard), plus 5 more for Speights (refs took 3, 75%). Florida had 4 NBA big men on that team - two with highly productive careers. It took all 4 to neutralize the lopsided inside game officiating, but neutralize it they did. Great coaching by BD and staff to compensate.

great point. Richard also had 16 points in the final 4 game vs UCLA when Noah and Horford weren't really getting their offensive game going. one of the great things about that team was all the weapons and guys stepping up.
