Shotgun ammo question

Keep a round chambered.

After 18 years of war, we found out that Soldiers who carry "cruiser ready" forget to chamber a round more times than not. They squeeze the trigger then nothing. Then freak, chamber a round, then fire. All that takes time, and when under stress, will make you prone to mistakes.

I am also not a fan of letting an intruder hear me rack a shell. It gives away my position and the element of surprise is gone. If I don't know exactly where he is, I am double screwed because now he knows where I am.

The first sound he will hear is the shotgun blast, THEN racking the next round.

If your gun is leaning against a wall, its not going to fire if it simply falls over. If you are worried about that, lay it on the floor just under the bed.

I prefer a #4 or #6 pheasant type load over buckshot. Less sheetrock damage to repair and I really don't want lead going thru multiple walls and hitting one of the kids. Where you are going to work is up close and the energy of the round will degrade quicker with a lighter load but still kill the intruder.

Also, don't think you should go hunting an intruder. If he is in the house downstairs and everyone is upstairs, camp out upstairs with a clear shot at the top of the stairs. Call the cops. If he comes upstairs, blast him. More times than not you will give yourself away making noise trying to track down the perp and he may get the drop on YOU. Lie in ambush, like a snake, preferably a Bushmaster. :)

Teach your kids how to handle a shotgun. I did and both of mine look like Delta operators when hunting.

My $.02.

Yeah sure D Boy Wannabe.

This is your safety.

This aint Afghanistan. We are not willing to tolerate a few thousand ADs a year to to overcome poorly trained privates forgetting whether their smokewagons are hot or not. Besides privates shooting other privates in the calf isn't really that expensive for the military.

Train to rack the gun when you grab it, bc everything in the safe is cruiser safe. It is not that hard.

Interesting you posted that picture.

In the movie, he was called Hoot. Do you know why? The operator he was playing (if you read the book, you will figure it out) and I were in ROTC together. "Hoot" finished college a semester early, but he still had another semester of ROTC left before he could commission as a 2LT of Infantry. You see, "Hoot" was a prior service CAG member and Ranger Regiment squad leader and I was fortunate to serve under his tutelage for a few FTXs and we always had a good time tromping around Lima Mike II and Radio Free Pineland. So, he finished college in fall of 1989, quit ROTC, and under his contract, had to reenlist. A week later he was running after Noriega in Panama with his old unit.

When he got back, ran into him at Doc's Lounge and teased him that he couldn't handle the pressure of being a 2LT of Mech Infantry headed to the 24th ID.

The truth is, being on the inside of the compound turns really good Soldiers into really bad Soldiers. He said that to CPT Steele (who I have met and don't really like for the same reasons he got relieved) because Steele embarrassed him for breaking discipline. "Hoot" knew it and so did everyone else. I know this because he is the one who taught ME about trigger discipine, weapon on safe, pointed in a safe direction.

Hoot later went to selection and retired a few years back as a SGM of an ODA at Lewis after running around the Philippines chasing guerrillas.

BTW, we are the ones who gave him his nickname because we couldn't pronounce his last name at first.

tldr: I know that guy he played in the movies. He trained me. You can blow me.

ahem.... an ODB (and six ODAs).

I know one of the Rangers who was there. Made the book several times but not the movie.

Several years ago, Col. McKnight spoke to a management conf I attended. He was very interesting and very candid. He did not hold Bill Clinton in high regard - and with good reason. We were all given copies of the book and I spoke briefly with him when he autographed my copy. Seemed like a decent guy.

I know Pineland but not from a class. You have to love the Army to do that ****.

I think so. It explains a lot.

I know one of the Rangers who was there. Made the book several times but not the movie.

My battle buddy from the basic course was in the IN Co at the 10th Mountain that were trying to get them out. He didn't make the book though.

I read the book before the movie and didn't know John was in it, but he has a very unique last name. God broke the mold when he built that dude.

To be clear, I didn't either. LTC Nick Rowe himself told me to try it again later, son. (I was just a few days over 19, about three months out of Fort Beginning, and had no business being there... but that's the way they did it then.)

Ordered one of these today.

GForce Arms Semi-Auto Shotgun 12ga. 20in 5rd. 3in.Chamber

$323 with insurance delivered to my local FFL.
I've never even heard of that. Not the gun, not the company. I'd put a bunch of rounds through it and make sure it works.

Edit: I see it is made in Turkey and not in China. That is better. Most of the Turkish guns are Benelli/Beretta-ish. I like recoil/inertia operated for a tactical shotgun. If that is a decent quality Benelli copy, you may have gotten a very nice deal.
