Developing a guy within a year seems quick, but maybe its just semantics. We've definitely taken a lot of transfers, but only a couple i would consider developed. We need to recruit better.
Van Jefferson, Shuler, Greenard, Stewart Reese are already developed power 5 starters. The first three were who they were the day they arrived. I guess you could argue "our" staff developed Greenard and Reese at their old schools though.

Grimes arrived raw. But it's hard to argue he has developed either. His stats certainly don't reflect anything, though I believe his size and speed will allow him to go much higher in the draft than his numbers this year will warrant.

Grimes’ numbers could also be a reflection of the offense and the depth at WR last year. Otherwise, your post is pretty spot on.

Agree on most of that...not sure id consider Shuler a developed power5 starter, but I can see the argument.

Well, he was a starting OLB and occasionally DE in the Big 12.

I guess he hadn't had any reps at DT yet.

How long does player development take? As for relying on rentals, is it bad to fill spots with transfers? I don't think its a bad thing. With the portal the way it is taking 1 developed player a year seems reasonable and wise.
Taking a developed transfer player to fill a need for a year isn't "bad". Of course not. But, the point is that recruiting elite talent gives the team more than 1 year of productivity from a grad transfer. UF's coaching staff is not doing a good enough job of bringing in sufficient quantities of elite-level talent at certain positions that can be developed to elite-level players to give 3+ years of the elite level of production needed to get the program to competing for SEC and National Championships. It's not that Mullen's staff has the team at a garbage-level. It's that better recruiting can elevate the program higher and it's frustrating that we seem to have reached a ceiling of "good" not "great". THAT, I believe, summarizes the dissatisfaction voiced from UF fans and on this board about recruiting.

We aren't bringing in sufficient quantities of elite talent at ANY position.

Turner is a Mullen "buddy" also (coached w/ him at MSU) and so is Brewster (another MSU assistant). It was complete amateur hour/laziness when he hired this staff.

the problem is that they
are "counters" so yes it helps next year but it screws us in years 2 3 4 and maybe 5. you do not get a makeup counter to replace the one that leaves after one ( or two) years.

If Grimes and Copeland don’t have breakout seasons then this staff sucks at PD. Another benchmark player for me is EJ.

Well, Bam is a Gator though.

We prefer to hire Dwags or Nulls.
