I got around to watching a bit of the Rusted Garden today. It was amazing what all he had planted and growing and how his garden was organized with very little wasted space. He had some $$ tied up in treated lumber, corrugated tin, and what not, but I don’t think it was something he did all at once. It was neat how he had a growing and propagation room and how he had something growing all throughout the year. That’ll be something to shoot for when I retire from the schools.

I’ve seen you mention composting and Pilarchik does as well. It’s something I’ve wanted to get around to but just haven’t. Seems like a good way to increase your soil density and viability. Do you have a barrel or something to turn the heap?
Next time you have 1 1/2 hours to spare, give a listen to Dr Elaine Ingham introduction on the difference between dirt and the good fungi and organisms that live in a healthy soil.

05-23-20-03.JPG 5-23-20-02.JPG 5-23-20-01.jpg Picking the sweet 100s pretty regularly and I've got a bunch of ripe datils I could pick but gonna let em sit a while longer. I'm waiting on the slicers to ripen, maybe 2 more weeks. Last week the days were hitting 90 and the nights were above 70 and I noticed some dead blooms on a couple of plants so I put a sunshade up hoping that will help. Hopefully will see some new blooms set some fruit this week.
Finally got some rain today, in fact it's been a good slow one all day and prolly tomorrow as well.

We had a storm a couple of nights back that made a mess of my squash and zucchini and knocked down my jalapeño. Tomatoes got a little tangled up and one bucket blew over, but the fruit was unharmed. I’ve picked 3 beef stakes so far and the better boys are on the way. The huskies are still coming and my yellow pair has a lot of fruit, but nothing ripe yet. We’ve had rain the last three days with warm nights, so everything is on the move.

Two days of solid rain here too, finally got out there this morning and found fuking little tiny black tomato pinworms eating the leaves on two of my beefsteaks and ate holes in one tomato. I sprayed the hell out of everything with neem oil and was gonna comeback tonight and dust some Sevin but it's getting ready to rain again in a few minutes, so I suppose that's on for in the am if it's dry.

I’m experiencing the same thing with the pin worms. Haven’t lost any fruit, but the leaves on a couple of plants have been damaged. Dusted with Sevin before leaving for work this morning. At least it stay on until the evening shower! The Neem I put out has been good on the wife’s roses, but I think Sevin has been my best bet on the vegetables. The rains we’ve had the last week have been great for growth, but have provided an amusement park for the pests in the garden.

I sprayed neem pretty heavy yesterday, both top and bottom of leaves and fruit. I also sprayed the soil in the top of the pots pretty heavily. Probably 2 hrs later it rained. I went out today around 11 and inspected the plants real close. Some pin worms were still active although you don't know if they are a new crowd, pretty sure I killed all that were munching leaves yesterday. I found one smaller tomato with a hole in it yesterday. Today I found 6 or 7 tomatoes with larger worm holes, some with the larger green and brown caterpillar inside. I used about 3/4 of a 16 oz container of Sevin dust all over the plants and fruit. Now it has been raining again for about an hour. I guess it's gonna wash all that schit off. I'm really getting pissed off now.

Same here. 1:00 rain washed all my treatment off. I guess I’ll do it again tomorrow. To hell with letting the pests eat everything. Another problem is the rain has caused some of my Huskies to start splitting. I’m finding I can’t leave them on the plant until perfectly ripe with a lot of rain. On the bright side, my first yellow pear tomatoes are showing color. Best looking plants in the garden are cucumbers. Planted about 40 okra plants earlier in the week. Kinda late start. They’ve enjoyed the rain. Also got my first red Birdeye pepper. Makes some good pepper sauce.

I’d look for something different for the worm control past the Sevin and Neem. This stuff works great and is rainfast really quick. Available at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Target etc. This is the same stuff we use in production Ag just different packaging.

I'll check that out tomorrow. I gotta go out of town Monday for the week and need something that works. Thanks for the tip Albert.

Had to work on the farm all day. Got up at daylight and had my coffee while I strolled through the garden. Saw some moths flutter out, figured pinworm or corn earworm. Saw some whiteflies but no damage. Brought back some lambda-cylohathrin from the farm and mixed some imidacloprid with it. Gave it the nuclear dose, should be clear for a week or 2.
Jalapeños starting to do it now, and I am ready. Picked a cayenne and ate it making sure my 14 yo son could see. He didn’t say anything, just did the same. After a minute he looked up and said “I guess you got me good”. Now we’re outta milk, but that was worth it!
