I've been comforting myself, I suppose delusionally, by looking forward to the upcoming football season. This really sucks.

Ivy League scraps college football and fall sports for 2020, will evaluate feasibility of playing in spring

The Ivy League has decided that fall sports, including college football, will not be played at its institutions in 2020. The conference announced Wednesday evening that "it will not be possible for Ivy League teams to participate" this fall "as athletics is expected to operate consistent with campus policies, including restrictions on student and staff travel, requirements for social distancing, limits on group gatherings, and regulations for visitors to campus."

The significant move comes as more questions and concerns arise about the feasibility of playing the 2020 college football season amid the coronavirus pandemic. Time is running out for the FBS season to start on time, which is leading many to wonder whether it will ultimately be moved a few months to the spring of 2021.

As to whether the Ivy League would consider playing football or its other fall sports this spring -- a notion considered undesirable by the Power Five conferences as the sport weighs contingency plans -- no decision has been made at this time.

Easier for them to do since fball doesn't make a ton of money. Hopefully it stops with the small schools and big boys still play

Saw headlines that Stanford just cut 10 sports due to a 70 mil shortfall. That most do not see this coming is unreal.

They were the first to cancel last season.
Hope everyone doesn't fall right in line this time, but I sure they will, over the next month.

I liked what James Franklin said like two months ago. Who ever wants to play should and regardless who sits out we still continue. Even if people in the conference sit out he said.

Especially when placed against the backdrop of so many other wise, rational, well-thought-out/no-long-term-ramification decisions being made on matters by many elsewhere.

Ivy league makes a fraction of what the other leagues make...

Leave it to the Ivy's to virtue signal. I'm sure they'll be patting themselves on the back while the death rates from this China virus continues to fall....

If the NCAA were smart, which we all know they are not, they would go ahead and move week 1 of the football season to the weekend of January 16, 2021 and the start of hoops season to January 10, 2021. You could have the playoff done in April sometime, and have May Madness follow it.

This gives the chance of a vaccine to come into play. If juniors and seniors going to the NFL don't want to play, so be it.

And, let's be for rills here, who knew that the Ivy League had football anyway?

PAC 10 will be next. Their fans are probably pissed the Ivies beat them to it.

I think any school practicing and playing during the pandemic is at serious risk of a class action player lawsuit once the first player gets sick and is disabled or dies. Perfect storm to add racism as a factor in a jury trial now too. I think the best outcome we can hope for is a delay.
