Looks like they set it up for there to be a lot of very reasonable birdie chances down the stretch today. The course has some rough that can create issues, but these guys are now strong enough to move it without much problem. To me the weather is the biggest challenge coming down the stretch. I think it was a good set up for the first major allowing plenty of birdies to be made. Can't wait until they get to Winged Foot for the US Open. That will be a different animal there.

I don't remember a major finish bunched like this.

I forgot to mention I was watching earlier when Jordan Spieth finished and I believe he was the first person on the course today. he said that he would not be surprised to see someone shoot 30 on the back 9 today as almost every hole was easily accessible relative to prior days.

The kid’s been hot lately. I was happy to see him win it. What a drive on 16! That and knocking in the putt was the tourney right there.

He’s been on fire and just starting. Yes, that drive and nuts to sink that putt was incredible. I would have probably 3 putted it. Possibly 4 putt.

23 years old. Amazing.

I was hoping for a 7-way playoff, but what a clutch performance by Morikawa. Golf has been a lot of fun to watch since it’s started back up. Who needs any other pro sports?

You summed it up the best I’ve seen it described. The lack of crowds helps to give you the feel of being part of the group players. I like it! It’s more interesting to hear more of the back & forth between players & caddies.

Now Augusta needs the crowd.... it wouldn’t be the same without the roar of the crowd echoing around the course letting other players know who’s making a move.

I drove a 310 yard par 4 about 30 years ago. 10 feet from the pin. Promptly 3 putted for a par.

When I was 18 or so, I played a new North Carolina course for a week. My uncle was part of the group developing the place. It wasn't even open to the public yet. The fairways were red clay, hard as a rock, and the grass had barely taken hold. It was hilly. I hit allot of 310 yard drives when heading downhill. Bouncing on concrete and rolling downhill halfway helped. Other than that I don't remember too many 300+ yard drives in my checkered career.

That same course had a par four with a sloping green and the same hard as a rock clay. You couldn't hold the damned green no mater what you did. You could barely hold it after your approach rolled off the green and you chipped on with your third shot. Uncle wanted to know what I thought of the place. I told him it would be OK with me if they blew that hole up and started over. They finally fixed it.

Just had our Member/Guest Tournament this past weekend. Friend of mine, his son( 27 years old) was playing behind us. One the 595 Par 5, slight dogleg right, he drives it over 400 yards to leave him with 187 to the elevated green with the pin in the back. Proceeds to hit hi 7 iron over the green but still manages a Birdie. Unreal.

Some weekend hackers have never parred a hole, so at least you can say you parred a golf hole. :lmao2:
October 1986...a beautiful fall day in Gville...my friend and i skip our afternoon classes to walk 18 at the UF course...there is a back log on the first so they send us off on 10...the 11th hole is a par 3 135 yards...I hit a 9 iron...and I hit it well...I thought I went over the green because as I walk up to the green I don't see my ball and I start getting piissed...I walk towards to back of the green and my buddy yells to me that the ball is in the hole! That was 34 years ago and I haven't sniffed a hole in one since!

Translation: How did he manage 400? Hard packed, baked fairway downwind?

Therefore, “how”?
Cut the slight dogleg and over a huge cottonwood. Fairways are green. Rough is think. I’ll send a picture today since I’ll be playing again.

So he cut the corner & a significant bit of listed yardage. Ok, that makes more sense.
