Almost a Decade Since Realignment - Was it Worth It?

We're approaching a decade since the latest round of conference realignment took place and I am wondering how you all feel about it now that this much time has passed.

Personally, Mizzou and A&M have never really felt right in the SEC and I'd argue the same for Nebraska in the Big 12. Colorado is also has really never made an impact out in the Pac 12 and West Virginia was/is a horrible fit for the Big 12 due to geographic and cultural differences.

Sure the money for all of those teams have been better and the smaller schools like TCU and the AAC teams have benefited but was it worth losing the Big East? Worth losing Nebraska vs. OU/Colorado/Mizzou? Other notable loses include A&M/Texas on Thanksgiving, Kansas vs Missouri, etc....

I was all for realignment and really believed the product would be better but ten years later, it feels all like it was a mistake and that those schools should admit they were drunk and go home.

I still find the teams awkward. Non of the teams you mention really make sense and it's really forced. At least Texas am had some connection to playing in a conference with some of the SEC in the past.

Same...it still feels forced to this day. A&M is the closest to being "accepted" and even then it doesnt fit all that well

Colorado and utah aren't that weird. Missouri, west Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers just seem odd. Nebraska makes half sense and them being in the big 12 makes half sense so that one isn't that odd.

Living in Big 12 country will just have to disagree with Nebraska/Colorado....

Utah definitely. Maryland, WVU, Rutgers def are terrible

HATED it when it started and hate it just as much, if not more today. I'll always blame Boston College for this crap. Thanks to them, my alma mater was left in the ocean without a raft and we've been drowning ever since.

Speaking of BC...Penn St should have joined the OG Big East conference...

I have been to Mizzou twice for Gator games and I can tell you it is NOT an SEC venue. They should not be in the SEC.

Terrible environment right? I live 30 minutes north and although I like seeing the Gators play, I hate going to Faurot. Now let me tell you something though, I was there the year Brad Smith destroyed Nebraska and it was lit...Perfect Big 12 environment

I agree that these changes have never felt right and if anything they have diminished college football to some degree

Although some will say that this wave of realignment was inevitable, please do not forget that this was all a result of the greed and arrogance of the university of texas (lower case intentional) when they extorted a significantly disproportionate amount of the TV money from the rest of the Big 12 and then doubled down with the longhorn network. This caused the Colorado move, the Nebraska move, and the Missouri move.

If you don’t like this realignment, don’t blame the schools that moved, blame the school that forced them to move

The realignment started with the Big 10 expanding for the start of B10Network. The negotiations with Texas and Oklahoma happened after Nebraska left for the money of the B10 and then texas was being propositioned by the Pac-12 and the Big12 caved and gave Texas more than they should have. The next year the SEC expanded to 14 teams. The dominos started 2011, and it all centered around money. So lets not pretend that texas was the only greedy group here.

While the West Virginia one doesn't make sense it was their only option. I'm sure they would have preferred to be in the ACC once the Big East imploded, but they never came calling. Their options were the Big 12 or AAC. For the Big 12 they were only on of the "power programs" still available for them to grab.

Nebraska, A&M,Missouri and Colorado not being in the Big 12 just doesn't make sense. That being said a lot of that goes back to Texas screwing everyone over and A&M wanting out of the shadow of big brother. It benefited them greatly and Texas is so pissed they refuse to schedule them anymore.

Maryland in the Big 10 is ridiculous and Rutgers is just glad they weren't demoted.

Obviously it would of made more sense if we could have grabbed a NCST or UNC but its all about markets now at the time those schools weren't leaving because of the basketball rivalries.

The only thing I'll say is Louisville and Cinci were sitting there for the taking and the Big 12 sat on its hands

My personal perspective is, aTm fits into the SEC MUCH better than Missouri. Missouri is like the neighbor's kid that always wants to come over and play even though no one really likes him/her. Plus, with them being so far north and west it just doesn't make any sense for them to be in the SECe. Kick them out and pick up one of the following, Clemson (my first choice), Miami, FSU, Virginia Tech, or Georgia Tech. I would even go so far as to say get rid of Missouri and Vandy and pick two of those options. Who cares about the other conferences?

In the SEC...Auburn needs to be in the East and Mizzou in the west.

I think TX A&M and Mizzou don't fit.

I would also like to add a power 6 Conference with ND forced to join somewhere.

I would prefer having five Power 5 conferences of 16 teams each. Each conference divided into two divisions of 8 teams. Each team plays all other teams in their division (7 games) and at least two or possibly three teams from the alternative division. Then add a couple of other Power 5 games from other conferences to complete a 12 game season. Conference champion and runner-up makes a 10-game play-off. I'm sure there are some issues that would have to be worked out but it would be a good start.

I'd have 6 Power (14 Teams) and 6 champions plus 2 wild card.
84 Teams...the rest can join FCS
