Exactly. No one should get too concerned about a season that’ll never happen.

I genuinely don't see how we can have a season. Let's say 5 players on our offense get the Jinping-Flu. Won't they in quarantine for a few weeks? And, we won't be the only ones having that kind of problem. How can this season have any kind of credibility at all?

From Zach Goodall, SI

At least four players are confirmed to be holding out, according to sources: Wide receivers Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes, and Jacob Copeland, and defensive end Zachary Carter.

"I've had communication with them, but that's not my place to share right now," Mullen said. He would not confirm which players sat out or their reasonings but noted that he "wouldn't be surprised if we have guys opt-out or if we have coaches opt-out" of the 2020 season.

I'm going to be completely honest; Carter and Cope were in support of the whole Pac 12 Players Voice BS...I personally want both to sit out or not have a season just to see any stock that he had tank...all those ****s deserve it

I'm assuming Copeland, Toney, Grimes, Carter, et. al., are still "gettin' paid"?

Toney is probably too busy thinking he is a "G" and trying to sell his rap albums. Carter/Copeland think they're modern day slaves and deserve so much more than the 100k or so benefits they already get...

Grimes mother had cancer so maybe that's why he's sitting but even then if youre that worried, then why would you even return to campus?

I think that is why they are sitting. How would one split up the revenue anyway? They want half of what the football team brings in. Could you imagine guys like McWilliams getting paid? Also, splitting the revenue like that would put the athletic department in the red by millions.

Year 3 strikes again.

I tend to agree with MJM that it's all moot anyway. But should there be a season, and these decisions hold up, the only one that's even remotely understandable is Grimes. He could've left last year and would've been fine due to his combine frame, limited work or not. Sucks that he came back to be the focal point in the passing game and hopefully lead us to something. But I have no real issue with his decision here.

Conversely, I have a very bad feeling that Copeland and Toney have a much different ending to their story. I have no idea why they wouldn't be the very ones wanting, even insisting, to play given the fact that neither has done enough to get drafted, and certainly not very high.

And Carter? Please. Add him to the "Ok, sure. But what exactly are you holding out for?" list.

Should be noted that 3 of the 4 were originally so enamored with McElwain that they felt compelled to attach themselves to his star. These are the types of guys we're dealing with here.

so... did they run out of the "natural" numbers?

will we also see players wearing other numbers - possibly negative numbers, fractions, rational numbers or possibly decimal type numbers ("...and now, #1 in your hearts and number 17.7 in your programs... Q'uantavious Williams!)

Is there an actual story behind this? Do they view him as that special?

Let's not overreact. Nobody opted out. Those players are still on the team. Coach Mullen is a smart person and will find a way to resolve the situation.

I don't know why they are sitting or holding out for. Grimes and Toney came back to school to play I am assuming. Copeland doesn't have much of a resume at all so unless he plays he won't have any chance of getting drafted.

Between the legitimate issues with health concerns and liability, and the opportunistic grab for the big bucks by some of the players, CFB is in real jeopardy of not only losing a single season, but being severely and permanently damaged by a few greedy players and some ass hole media types with an axe to grind. If I hear one more "pundit" going on about the "plantation" system in CFB, I'll phuking puke. If these ass hats want to destroy the best thing that's ever happened to some of these kids, so be it - phukem.

Just do away with athletic scholarships altogether, recruit exclusively from the existing student body, and let the ones who never cracked a book until they got tutored to within an inch of their phuking lives fend for themselves. We can all go back to Ivy League level CFB and the poor exploited kids who can barely spell their own names can pursue other endeavors more suited to their actual abilities. To paraphrase the Bard: "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless, greedy "student" athlete." Let them go play minor league FB with the hope of duplicating the advantages of a 4 year degree and the development that can only be derived from the major CFB experience. I say again, phukem.
