The Lightning are thumping the Islanders.

they’re going to win the whole thing. And sans Stamkos. Brayden Point and Hedman have been spectacular in this game.

Hope they do but the Championship will always have an asterisk behind it!

Another great win for the Lightning! Kuch scores GW with 8 seconds to go.

Friggin gutsy win last night. They weathered the Isles' opening onslaught - which we knew was coming after the thumping they took in game 1 - killed a bunch of penalties, including a 5-minute major and a 5-on-3 and survived without 3 of their top 4 scorers and with a short bench. You can't write a better ending to a tight playoff game than McDonagh's ballsy pass that set Kucherov up perfectly. And you can argue the Isles' lone goal was a bit fluky.

Playoff hockey could be the toughest grind in sports. Unlike last year, the Bolts are showing crap tons of grit to go with their abundance of speed and talent. Vegas looks tough out west, but methinks Lord Stanley's Cup might just park itself on Channelside for a second time....

Missing him and Stamkos will be catastrophic.

A high hurdle? Absolutely. "Catastrophic"? No. There is still a lot of speed on that team and they've shown they can play and win while grinding. And aside from that 5-period marathon against Columbus, I don't think we've seen the best yet from Vasilevskiy.

Don't get me wrong. We need Point. And imagine what a boost getting Stamkos back for the Final would be - even if he's not 100%. But we still have more than a puncher's chance without them.

By catastrophic, I wasn’t thinking of this series. I was thinking of the finals. I’m not sure we can beat Vegas with Point and Stamkos out.

Killorn suspended for tonight. It can be argued that given he was effectively "suspended" the game he was ejected and that he's had only one other incident in his career requiring league discipline and a fine that this is excessive, especially in a playoff grind.

As I type this, Cooper is being cagey about Point's availability tonight.

Maybe the Isles steal this one....

I don’t think Cirelli can offset Point enough. Granted, he is excited to play with Kuch.

Not a hockey fan but I must say that I truly enjoyed the sufferings of longtime hockey fans from the traditional markets when the lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004 and I would enjoy a repeat

Nothing quite like whining New York, Boston and Philly fans

I don’t generally do hockey, but my son did a sports research project on Wayne Gretzky in 1st grade and somehow mixed up that he’d played for the Islanders. And he was doubly excited that he wore orange and blue. I didn’t think it sounded right, but went along with it. Needless to say, I am now an Islanders fan for ultimately no reason.

But sure, go Lightning.

Lightning lose a tough one. Vasilevski had a rough game. And on a night that we were short handed. Islanders had to win to have a chance in this series.

It’s easy to become a hockey fan for an odd reason. When I was a kid, our local team, the Caps, was the laughingstock of the league. A buddy of mine’s Dad grew up in New York, and he loved hockey and would drag his son to lots of games. Naturally his son wanted company, so I was introduced to a game I knew nothing about and to this day have never actually played. So off we went to Caps games and, due to the small crowd, it somehow felt intimate and I fell in love with a team of lovable losers. I became a Caps fan and suffered through season after season of disappointment. Just when I was ready to give up on them, Alex Ovechkin made a visit to my kid’s school and picked out a shy kid to whom to give an autographed puck. Well my faith was restored and my son was now a Caps (and Ovechkin) fan for life. When they finally won the cup, I was as happy as I have ever been for one of my teams to be champs. Go Caps!

I didn't see the Isles first goal, but Vas had no chance on goals 2-4. His D let him down big time.
