Here's a fun read about Derrick Henry's recruitment from 247's Steve Wiltfong.

Alabama's Henry the greatest high school player of all-time

A) Many college coaches saw the athlete label as well and had Henry as an impact guy on defense

B) Besides Alabama, Ramsey (Bobby Ramsey, his coach) said Florida was the only other school that had a chance sign him. In fact Ramsey reached out to the Gators staff and told them Henry was back in play.

“They said we don’t know if he’s an offensive player, we’re going to have to go back and reevaluate it again, and they just got a commit from Kelvin Taylor, and I’m like why not try and get them both. We played against Taylor and I was thinking they’re really complimentary players. One guy is North and South, the other one is shiftier. You got this kid 90 miles from your backyard and when Florida is Florida, they’re getting the best players in Jacksonville area and with Derrick they didn’t do it.”

C) “I remember schools flat out told me we don’t like him as a running back,” Ramsey said. “I was like I don’t know what to tell you and he doesn’t want to hear that. He’ll be polite but he’s not going to look at your school.

It is hard for me to know what to believe, only that he was rumored to have been a Gator fan growing up. It is entirely possible that Bama's pot was sweeter, but if Muschamp truly wanted a power running game, the kid from Yulee looked like a natural. God bless KT, but he would have faired better in the Pell/Hall era.

In just this thread alone, go to post number 11. That’s directly from Henry’s high school coach

This thread makes me wonder. I wonder if Foley rides an armored vehicle to and from the office. He probably ought to.

Haven't watched pro football in years but this Titans story with Derrick Henry is captivating. Might have to tune back in at least for awhile to see how far the Titans can go. I love watching this guy run. I know he played for Bama and we're supposed to hate all things Bama, but Henry is from Yulee, Florida so even though he played college ball for Saban he is still a Floridian.

A couple of interesting sidelights. Ken Hall, the guy who held the high school rushing record for many years until Derrick Henry broke it, was from Sugar Land, Texas. Just doing a little on-line reading I found out the mascot of Sugar Land High School (in what at one time before suburbanization were the swamps and cane fields near Houston) was the Gators. The Sugar Land Gators. What a name that is. Sounds like a name that would be fitting for a high school in Clewiston, Florida wholly the way are called , you guessed it, the Tigers. Not many high school teams have been called the Gators at least up until recently, but this was back in the early 1950s when Hall played for Sugar Land. Ken Hall was called the Sugar Land Express. Henry has been called the Yulee Express. He certainly does look like a big powerful train when he get up a head of steam. The name Yulee carries a big connection with the history of railroads in Florida.

Gator J in his post above provided a link to a story that connected Ken Hall, Bear Bryant and Derrick Henry. Here's a link to a more lengthy article that details Hall's career under Bryant at Texas A&M from a Sports Illustrated story that appeared in 1982 when SI was still worth reading.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SUGAR LAND EXPRESS?

I'd kinda like to forget the Muschamp years. The only thing worse was going on Probation and that peanut butter and jelly eating "Shark Molester" that followed.

Hey we could have had Chip Kelly or Taggart:what:

So I just realized that Omar’s avatar is based on the character from “The Wire”. On the show, Omar was a fag. Makes a lot of sense now.
