in case of a SHTF scenario i have 2 defensive scenarios.
the first is to defend my house. i have 2 sons with me. the elder one is proficient with the Ar-15, while my younger son is not so good with any platform yet. he can shoot but i don’t see the determination in him that may be required. so i have him staged with my mossberg with 50 3-1/2” OO in the master bedroom.
i’ll take a position in the living room with an ar-15 in .223 and an ar-10 in 6.5 creedmoor. i’ll have 3 9mm handguns at my side if the house is breeched.
my elder will take a position looking over the backside of our property with an ar-15 in 223 and a 9 mm if things get close.

the second scenario is if i have time we will bug out to my buddies house and combine our efforts to defend there.
we’ve laid out the positioning complete with a rooftop nest... he’s a precision competitive shooter and his wife shoots competition 3 gun too. it helps that he has ammo stacked so deep it’s insane.

it’s good to have a plan, but it really sucks to think it may be needed.

Glock 32 gen 4 is thin, ammo is double when you can find it
Take a look at the ballistic gelatin tests for the ammunition.

357 Sig isn't a bad concept, they just never sold enough to warrant developing ammo that expands just a little slower for that extra velocity. instead you get 9 mm parabellum bullets that expand too quickly and may not penetrate as much as you'd like when fired fro. 357 Sig.

in certain instances, such as Air Marshals or USSS, rapid expansion and less penetration makes sense. For most of us, probably not, especially when it comes at the cost of less magazine capacity and higher cost ammo.

one of the hardest things to shoot.

maybe not so much to the generation that used to hot rabbits and squirrels from the time they were teenagers.

but if you put relatively heavily trained shooters on the line with pistols rifles and pump action shotguns, you will get probably 20 times the malfunctions with the shotgun as anything else.

Can anyone post up a link to an ammo site that actually has ammo in stock?? I'm heading out to the cabin tonight for the weekend, planning to hit up the gun store out that way to see what they have in stock. Every ammo site I use has been completely sold out of 9mm.

You might just have to stop in at a lot of shops... a lot of sites (and shops with websites) have just either put everything as "out of stock" or taken their web ordering down altogether (because the situation is too fluid to deal with online), but they have product on the shelf in their physical shop.

Yep. There's two gun stores near me in Shenandoah County, so I'll pop in both and see if they have anything. Sometimes the Walmart out there has 9mm, I haven't bought ammo at Walmart in quite a while (last time was .22 rounds).

Do you have an Academy Sports near you? If so this is already too late but FYI they get shipments in on Tuesday and Friday(here locally anyway)but you better get there an hour or more before opening. When I went to pick up my pistol a few weeks back it was Friday morning and I got there about 10 minutes before opening......the line to get in was wrapped halfway around the store. Luckily someone in line told me because I wasn't there for ammo specifically I could go in at opening. I think they were only letting a couple of people at a time who were there for ammo in.
Try Gunbot(thanks DG) BUT be ready to do a "Fred Sanford" when you see the prices..

Academy of Sports was dried up for Ammo. But they also seem to be the last ones to raise prices. Shooter's World had 9mm and 5.56 but no .380 last I checked. When I've ordered online it has taken over a week though I did place an order at bulkammo.com on Thursday and it's suppose to be here Saturday.
I paid .55/rnd for steel case TULA at bulkammo.com
I have the ammoseek app on my phone but I haven't bought anything that it's helped me find.
My best source has been a large pawn/gun store in Deland.

Shooters World in the Villages had 9mm range ammo priced at $40.00 for 50 rounds. Thankfully I have enough to hold me over until the price goes down. I am going to try finding lower priced ammo at the next gun show in Ocala

$40 for a box of 9mm is crazy. Makes me wish I’d swiped a case before I retired!

You'll probably be disappointed. I've been to two gun shows recently and they too have jacked up prices.
9mm under .60/rd is a rare find these days. I'm shooting steel case to save $$.

I am working on getting a CC.

I just picked up a 380 for my wife and I.

I want to get a second one even smaller.

20 rounds $30 and won't sell more than 1 box.

why do you want smaller? a 380 is about as small as I would go and the little ones will fit in your pocket.

smaller is almost never better

Very light for my wife with laser site...fits in your back pocket.

She says mine is heavy.

Was thinking aluminum .38 but that kicks too much and I want the same ammo.

I also want a very short home denfese shotgun. My over-under is too heavy and long for her.

But two barrels in your face gets their attention...and you can't miss. Just pull.

Have any of you found much in the way of a left-handed AR platform? I’ll admit I haven’t researched it much. My son is crazy left-eye dominant, and although he does everything else right-handed, he has always been more proficient shooting from the left shoulder. He can handle all my AR stuff (SW MP, Sig Rattler) but I think he might be better served if he could go lefty. He shoots a left-handed Beretta A400 shotgun very well, and his deer rifle is a left handed Christensen Mesa 6.5 Creedmoor, with which he is deadly out to 500 and serviceable to 800. Any insight out there?

a small 38 is about the worst thing you could give someone who's not good with firearms.

a pump action shotgun is next on the list of terrible firearms for a beginner.

no offense but how much lighter than a polymer 380 can you get? a 22 mini revolver?

at some point you need to consider whether if you need a self-defense handgun you need a self-defense round in that handgun. I cannot think of any 32s that are lighter than the 380s. that wasn't always the case.

I wouldn't consider a 22 under almost any conditions as a primary self-defense weapon. rimfire ammo is just too hit or miss.

what is he have in mind? and what do you have now?
