How do we fix our defense?

This isnt fixed easily. It has just been atrocious recruiting. We actually had Bogle lined up at DT. That is right, an undersized blitzbacker playing DT.
It just shows how absurdly out of balance we are.
And it all exacerbates. You could get by with one undersized blitzbacker hybrid playing DE (standing up or not). Youd have to scheme to give him help vs run of course.
You CANT scheme for two or three Blitzbackers on the DL.
You could scheme for weak linebackers (and 30 pounds to light) if you have big DTs swallowing up two blockers.
You could scheme for one bad safety.
But trying to scheme for all of those? We may well be the offensive high point for every SEC team.

The reason you are earmarked as a 210lb "end hybrid" is because you don't have LB skills.
Getting smaller isnt the answer. To play a 3-4 you need three BIG beasts up front.
And no, you can't switch a defense in the middle of the year either.
What you would want to do is put less skinnies on the field, except in passing downs. The problem is we have 7 skinnies, and several more we are trying to force into the linebacker rotation. 7 skinnies versus 4 heavier kids (and one is a true freshman) makes it pretty rough.
You'd want to have something like Slaton and Dunlap inside and Carter and Dexter outside. If you do that though, you have zero depth.
There really is no way to overcome the piss poor recruiting.

This is why some us bitched and moaned constantly during recruiting season the past few years. Hell, longer than that. This is what happens when you don't freakin sign DT's. Do we need a new DC? Yes but this stems from poor roster management on the defensive side of the ball.

you probably don't want to watch the Bulldwags power run game if you are pissed about this defense right now.
Barn isn't good of course, but they are far stronger up front than us.
I heard Disco Dan says the players just have to play harder. That should make a 240 pound "defensive end" a match for a double team from a 320 pound OT.

Good news! We weren’t the Offensive high point for Carolina! (I do agree with the deleted portion of the analysis and seeing Dante Lang at tackle on Saturday just furthers beats that DT drum for you; what is going on with Humphries?)

You could say right now we are playing a 2-4-5 right now, with two of the outside LBs having their hand in the dirt most plays.
The problem is we need 3 or 4 real linemen on the line and that we didnt bother to recruit them two or three years ago.

We have some decent CBs and DEs. We are small in the middle of the field and will easily get pushed around. There is no fixing not having size in the middle of the front 7 and quality safeties except scoring lots of points and hoping other coaches like Muschamp continue to attack the perimeter (even after pushing us up the middle on that first drive).

What a buffoon he is. So when a pitcher in baseball gives 14 hits in 3 innings, yet they were all singles, then he is pitching well?Oh wait, I have a better one. Reminds me of when Ga. Southern, a Division 7 girls school, strolled in and beat us. But wait, the defense really put on a stunning performance b/c why.?, the mighty Gator D gave up exactly ZERO yards passing. Thanx for the sentiment Joe Lee Dunn Jr. Moral victories is one reason the program has been downtrodden for so long.
