Mullen should have let the Bengals take our trash out last year.....maybe Arthur Blank will come calling in January (fingers crossed)

Except the Bengals never had a face to face with TG, when they came out with their candidates he wasn't on their list. Which tells me the person that released that information wasn't the Bengals but his agent. Why would the Bengals take a college coordinator that is already getting paid higher than over half the current NFL DCs.

I think he did have a face to face, but the NFL always interviews a bunch including several minorities by rule.

And of what minority would Joe Lee Dunn Jr. represented?? They SHYTTIEST of DC's category?
I guess they never actually looked at any of his game field.

now to be fair we're talking the Bengals here. they hired the University of Cincinnati's offensive coordinator who never finished above a 100th, then made him HC.

Let's look at the depth chart:

DEFENSIVE TACKLE:
No. 17 Zachary Carter (R-Jr.), No. 9 Gervon Dexter (Fr.)

NOSE TACKLE: No. 56 Tedarrell Slaton (Sr.), No. 55 Kyree Campbell (Sr.), -OR- No. 91 Marlon Dunlap Jr. (R-Sr.)

These guys are our only DL. They have to be the front FOUR. Slaton and Cambell at the Tackles and Dunlap and Carter at the two DE spots. Give Dexter reps as he can handle them. Maybe ONE skinny at the weak DE slot every now and again but it can't be every down.

Add some reps from Jaelin Humpries, Lamar Goods, Dante Lang, and/or Jalen Lee at DT and SDE. Honestly I haven't even seen the last three on the sideline. Are they on the team? Maybe we have to get a few reps from TJ Moore or Josh Braun or something if we just need a player to play 5 or 10 snaps. ala Mike Pouncey. Something to make the DL at least LOOK like a P5 defensive line. If nothing else, the size up front will keep the DL from getting blown the fuchs up every single play and keep the LBs clean.

The rest:

DEFENSIVE END

No. 1 Brenton Cox Jr. (R-So.)

No. 10 Andrew Chatfield (R-So.)

BUCK

No. 7 Jeremiah Moon (R-Sr.)

No. 8 Khris Bogle (So.)

No. 4 David Reese (R-So.)

Skinnies not on the Depth Chart: Summerall, Princely, and Antwuan Powell.

Sorry, boys. It is done. This joke experiment of using D3 sized DL is over. You skinnies are 3rd and long ONLY. No more reps otherwise. All of you are GARBAGE vs the run and frankly it isn't fair to try to put a 240lb guy up against a 320lb SEC OT anyway.

We should start working some of those younger guys at ILB, especially Reese maybe Bogle. We are in an SOS situation at ILB even worse than DL, and we have to find someone with the mindset to play LB. If you don't want to be moved to LB you better do what Carter did and spend every second of your life in the weightroom and chow hall gaining size and strength.

LInebackers and DBs.

I just don't know. There is zero talent at LB right now.

The front seven is just a total shytshow and I don't really know how to make it any better. I guess I'd play Diabete with Ventrell at first until we find some other capable LBs.

Burney, move him to star. His first step is still backwards. He just can't play LB.

At this point if I were running the show I'd just sellout to stop the run.....seriously put 4 or even 5 guys on the los because non of our LBer's or safety's have a lick of coverage skills anyway. I'd rather force a QB to make good throws than to let the opposing OC leisurely flip through his playbook on 2nd and 3....if you get gouged by a deep ball at least the your offense gets back on the field sooner than later.

Thoroughly reasonable post.
Like 07? think outside box. What widebody can take a few reps for relief. We know we need safety help wasn’t Burney recruited for SS if he is starting with a step back he is there :)

it isn't all about 07 really. 07 we knew we had basically the entire Under Armour All Star game defense on the field.

This defense gets worse next year and the year after. There really is no relief in the future until we recruit DTs, real DEs and ILBs, and then wait three years til they are ready for the field.

Yep.

Grantham’s stupid scheme is a gimmick that literally everyone in college football has figured out.

Dan has doomed himself by shackling the team to this **** show.

Grad transfers will be big this offseason.
That's one of the few things Mullen does exceptionally well on the recruiting trail.

Just wish he'd seen the glaring need to find a Greenard and Zuniga replacement this offseason.
