Mullen on Defensive Woes: We have simply been facing "great" offenses

To be fair Ole Miss has the #2 offense, A&M is at #19, and SC is #45. Personally I think a lack of balance on the recruiting trail, poor recruiting, and our DC being terrible is the main reason though.

If you take away there stats against us, how do their ypg and ppg drop? Are they so high because they played us?

With about 50% of teams playing, those stats don’t mean much to me.

I do think offenses are much more difficult to defend these days. I think it will be very interesting to see how many points are scored in the Georgia Alabama game. Can Alabama's defense bounce back after the miserable performance against Ole Miss? Can Georgia stop Alabama? If Georgia stops Alabama, then we know it is possible to stop these modern offenses with talented players. I think Georgia will win because of their defense, but I hope not!

MJM makes a great point. And as you say, Doug, who knows how much their performance against us has weighted things. I do think both Usce and obviously OM are better on offense than they've been in past years, and the season may very well confirm that. The bigger issue is that it doesn't need to be brought up right now. In 2008, the OM loss, as inexcusable as it was, looked better and better each week as they ultimately won 9 games. They turned out to be better than most thought. But that wasn't mentioned in the aftermath of the loss because it was neither provable nor relevant. Again, keep your head down, stop talking, certainly don't make excuses, and work to fix your issues. The rest will take care of itself.

I think our defense sucks. I think USC offense sucks. I think aTm offense sucks. And I think Ole Miss is getting way too much credit for having a great O because all they have faced is crappy defenses thus far. Your post wreaks of excuses for our crappy D.

Imagine of the other 65 teams were playing and the Chumpcawks were rated #110 instead of #45.

In some ways I marvel at how you manage to be on the wrong side of every argument but the consistency is admirable in a way.

Defenses are used to having the crowd noise on their side. It's no wonder the offenses are blossoming this year. Competent QB's are playing in a relatively silent environment.

This is bound to skew the stats. All being said, our defense is still Swiss cheese the fat rat needs to get axed.
