San Francisco great, Fred Dean died Wednesday at the age of 68. Known as a fearsome pass rusher, he was a large part of the 49ers success in the early 1980s. RIP and thanks for the memories.

"One of the first times I met Fred, he's laying on a bench in our weight room smoking a cigarette," recalled former 49er's center Randy Cross. And I looked down and said, 'Fred, what are you doing man?' He said, 'Well, I was thinking about lifting weights, but I thought I might lie here until I got over it.'

Condolences to the family.

Having lost my mom and 2 other friends, (all white BTW) it's really a difficult situation not to be able to be at the side of someone you love when they leave this life.

I'll say this, when we suddenly lost my grandfather back on September 10, the greatest blessing was that he was released to come home for those of us in the area to say goodbye. He was only home for about an hour and a half before passing, but we were grateful for the opportunity. I feel for those who are not able to do the same.
