So basically, he was the LeBron James back then? Political issues spoken out about by an athlete.

We didn't notice. He was too busy burning up the SEC. ESPN can't help themselves.

I have no problem with athletes speaking out, providing two things:

1) They know what they are talking about
2) It's done outside the sphere of the competition (i.e. don't ruin gameday)

While I may not agree with Ali, he was willing to man up and go to jail for his convictions. I can respect that. That's not what we have today.

I just watched it. He walked a thin line between criticizing prejudice without condemning the USA

Carlos Alvarez was living at a time when people of color could not drink out of the same water fountain. it's pretty fair to criticize that system.

That doesn't really relate much to today.

I just watched it. If he wants to politic on his own time, he's an American, it's his right. As far as I can tell, it didn't impact his game so God Bless him.

What did affect his game was his conflict with Dickey and that was probably as much or more on Dickey as it was on CA.

Correct

The problem today is that many people with personal agendas are trying to convince us that nothing has changed.
Those of us that were alive during this era know that nothing could be further from the truth

Thanks for the input, I would have enjoyed seeing him remember the football and relations with other players and coaches. Not so much about whatever issues he might have. Probably won't bother.

ESPN would not have produced this without the social justice angle. The football part of this is irrelevant to Disney

I don't care and won't watch it.

Always wondered why he settled in Tallycrappy?

The Cuban Comet.....I remember him vividly. The 69 game against Houston--3rd play.....I was hooked on all the Super Sophs and Carlos was always one of my favorite UF receivers.

I didn’t watch it but it sounds like ESPN spent about 5 minutes on the football stuff as a backdrop to the real story (In their minds) which is promoting social unrest.
The ridiculous premise being that the situation in America today is no different than 1969.

Then you would be wrong. Amazing footage of his skills and comments by his family. Other famous gators from that era and even from Dickey. Well worth any gator fan's time. He recently (on FB) expressed how crazy it was he could play for UF as a non citizen but black athletes could not.
