if you truly believe that after watching the number of videos out there on this hit, put the quarterback in flags. Because if 95% of the hit it's the chest like the quarterback is bracing for impact is targeting. Then they shouldn't be hit. Put them all in flags.

Another way to look at it, if the roles are reverse is that targeting?
For all intents and purposes the quarterbacks are in flags now.

If they hadn't missed the penalty it would have been confirmed as targeting on review. There's nothing in the rule about a certain percentage of contact to the head allowed.

It's looks like it almost all chest and shoulder... If this is targeting, then that would take out so many defensive linemen and blitzing linebackers each week, who make similar plays on the qb but not late.

LSU LB Devin White got flagged for targeting and missed the first half of the 'Bama game the week after this hit on the Cowbell QB. White was closer to the release of the ball (as far as late hit goes) but you can see he at least tried to pull up and put his hands out to cushion the blow. The contact to the chest AND head/neck area is similar.

I don't write the rules, I don't like the rules, but rules are rules and if it applies to LSU it should apply to Mizzou the same.

Alex, 99% this doesn't get called... we can't expect it to get called for us. Might get called every once in a while, but how many time do you see the same hit on a quarterback (not late) and the game moves forward.

This was so blatant and obvious that even the commentators mentioned it. It was so obvious because it was so easy to see by everyone. There was zero excuse for not making that call by the refs. Zero.

Find an example other than Trask on Saturday when it wasn't called.

These are the rules now. You can't hit a defenseless player in the head. Not even 5%.

No one saying it wasn't a penalty, but weither it's a late hit which is blantant and obvious or targetting.

Bernie, you show me a database of hits on qb's that aren't penalities and I'm sure we will find some, probably some in the our game Saturday night. But to say they are all called that way, is a fools errand. And you are no J.

You said 99% of the time it wouldn't be called that way and Alex immediately showed an example of it being called that way. Do you really think that was 1 in 100?

You claimed that sort of thing happens all the time and isn't called, so it should be pretty easy for you to find an example to support your claim... If you are right.

It was an obvious late hit, it might have been called targeting. No matter if it had been called then the half can't end on a penalty rule would have been used again after the 15 yard penalty. Then we might have more points.

I would expect the coach of Mizzu to penalize his player no matter what, and the league suspend him for some time. What happens we will see.

Honestly Bernie, i think its less than that... When I have time I'll search, the problem is the stuff that is usually saved is tha controversial stuff not the stuff that is considered routine. This hit was obviously controversial because it was late (there is not argument there) and it started a fight). You argument is if the face, helmet, or neck is even touch, which I think if so not much in this case its a penalty.

The national media is turning on Dan in a way that makes me love him more

Don't take this wrong because I am certainly not knocking it by any means, but the entire National and local media came down on Miami for the brawl w/FIU An FIU safety wrestled the Miami holder to the ground after a PAT & appeared to hit him in the chin then an FIU cornerback kicked the holder in the head. Then the entire Miami team unloaded on them. Ultimately, 8 players for FIU ejected & 5 for Miami ejected. It's hard to blame the players for protecting each other as football is a rough physical game It was a definite late hit on Trask & it sure woke up the Gator team. It won't matter if the media comes down on Coach Mullen and/or the players, as it will serve to unite the team as it will create the mantra of us against the world & they will play even better. This does not bode well for Georgia. Good luck Saturdays against the dawgs.
