You and I used to be pals, now you're openly calling me out and it hurts.

The indisputable facts:
1) Mullen never would have recruited Trask
2) Mullen never would have played Trask if his hand wasn't forced
3) Mullen can't stand Trask personally because he makes him feel worthless and they don't speak

All this started because neteng went ballistic when it was suggested Mullen lucked into Trask. Now neteng has ADMITTED that statement was true and I was absolutely right all along. I guess I don't see what you dorks are still arguing about, at least with me.

1) Probably right. Different style. Meyer wouldn’t have recruited Leak, who we needed to win a title in 2006.

2) Played Trask to close Mizzou and planned to start him until he broke his foot.

3) Also probably right. I imagine QB/offensive meetings with a lot of, “well maybe if someone had read the safety there”, and “hey, maybe you can your pal Felipe” type comments. Probably have to
separated all the time.

1) You know who else wouldn't have recruited Trask. Everybody. Saban. Your hero Meyer. EVERYBODY. Whats the point?

2) He did play him and never looked back. He was going to play him and pull Franks but Trask hurt his foot.

3) That is a made up soap opera situation that resides only in your mind with no factual basis to found it on. It says a lot more about what you think about Mullen than it does about reality. It really undercuts everything you say or have said on this subject.

Oh ... Im at level 2 right now. You can't handle level 10 ballistic neteng.

We always give them a contract extension, even three weeks before we fire them when we say we knew from the beginning it wasn't going to work.

Why not? It's monopoly money anyway, right?

IMO no extension until he wins something. Just Mcelwaining in Atlanta isn't winning something.
We haven't even made it to Atlanta yet. He beat UGa, which means he gets to stay another year. That's enough,

If we are being fair: Yes, there was the one time mullen chose trask to start over franks after franks had a stream a miserable games. But, he still continued to go with Franks after Trask came back from injury. If Kentucky hadn't injured Feleipe I think the chances are pretty low that we would have come back to win that game. It was clear to most on this board that Trask was lightyears better after just a few hours of game-tape.

Surely you can at least SOMEWHAT understand how people might question Mullen's decision making in a situation where Mullen had spent over a year watching these two in practice and continually gave Franks the nod over one of the best QBs we have ever had at Florida. I mean we aren't talking about a nuanced difference here... We are talking about the difference between Danny Wuerffel and Jesse Palmer. Tim Tebow and John Brantley. That's how big the gap is.

Again, look at how Franks finished 2018 once Trask got hurt. We went 4-0 and his numbers were solid. He wasn’t getting benched playing that way. He sucked at the end of the um game and was bad against UK. No one knows for sure what would’ve happened if he’d not gotten hurt and we lost. But there’s at least evidence from less than a year earlier that Mullen was willing to make a switch. So it’s an argument that doesn’t make much sense.

Coaches are stubborn. That’s not new. We may have an undefeated season if Spurrier goes to the shotgun earlier. We’d definitely have another SEC title if he’d let Sr Fred Taylor run the ball more instead of forcing Doug Johnson to throw. Meyer and Kestahn Moore. On and on.

Well we can definitely agree that it's stubbornness.

2016 - Trask Redshirted
2017 - Injured - out for entire season
2018 - Injured and out for remainder of season after seeing some backup duty.
2019 - Franks stats the season because he has 22 starts and is showing signs of improvement. Makes sense.
Then Franks goes down in the the 3rd game and the rest is history.

The narrative that Mullen's kept Trask on the bench while he was obviously the better QB is shyt. Mullen "develops" QB's. i'e. bringing Trask in as a backup while he gets more confident and learns the playbook. Injuries held Trask back not Mullen. Franks wasn't playing that bad all though it was becoming clear that he had reached his ceiling.

Trask came in and everybody noticed he was better right away.

It wasn't obvious in 2018.
Franks finished 2018 with 63-10 over Idaho, 41-14 over FSU and in his best performance 41-15 over Michigan.
So who does any coach start in 2019? The QB with two seasons of experience and who is still improving or the career bench warmer who couldn't get a drink of Gatorade without twisting an ankle?

Exactly. One of the few things I remember about Trask from the UT-Martin game was his first pass(I think) should’ve been a pick-6. It’s what prompted my post in Ox’s “Trask to Start Uk” thread. Let’s also not pretend that this year’s Trask is the same as what we got in the first few games he played as a starter. He was good, but made a ton of mistakes, namely being indecisive and holding the ball too long. We narrowly avoided easy TDs by opponents that came as a direct result from his fumbles. With more reps and direct coaching, he’s become what he is now. But no one, including reporters covering practice and even his own teammates saw this coming.

Yes, he inherited him. All coaches inherit players. Do we not judge them until they are coaching strictly their own team? As neteng pointed out, Trask isn’t playing this well without a great group or WRs, TEs and a RB that Mullen didn’t inherit.
Pitts, Toney, Copeland, Pierce, Trask all Butters specials. Sorry, but he is doing it with mostly inherited players.

Copeland had decomitted, or at a minimum was a signing day announcement. Pitts had to be signed as well. But Zipp, Wright, several on the OL, Grimes, Grenard, Jefferson, Shorter are all MPs to players and completely his. It only stands to reason that the majority of contributors will be from the previous staff. If nothing else, he’s turning all of those “meh” names(minus Copeland) into great players and leading to the East. Remember the off-season narrative that we’d been fortunate with the WRs he inherited and now we’d see a huge drop off this year? Great times.

Yes, Trask is Damn good at spreading the ball around. But despite his injury, the big 3 of this offense are clearly Trask, Pitts, Toney. I like the way Shorter and Grimes are playing. The depth at TE is encouraging but will still be a significant drop-off when Pitts bolts to the NFL. We have a lot of depth at RB but Pierce is the most productive by a long shot currently.

I think everyone is thrilled about the change in offense and subsequent production. How much of that is the amazing bizarre story of Kyle Trask, the surprise gift to Mullen that just keeps on giving. If Mullen doesn't thank God every night for the dumb-luck blessing that was bestowed on him, he's crazy. There's also the issue of OC Brian Johnson and how much of this wide open passing offense is him and how much is Mullen.

On talent, I’ll take my chances next year with Jones, Wright, Bowman and Lingard in the backfield, and Henderson, Shorter, Zip and Frazier’s/Whittemore in the passing game. The OL has improved every season.

As for Johnson, great coordinators are part of the equation. We bash guys like English(and rightly so) for their performance, and then use Johnson to say it’s more him than the head guy running things. I don’t really get it.

On the Trask luck, you think Meyer was lucky to have a Top-5 all time player grow up a diehard Gator, roughly 1.5 houses from campus? It’s all luck and circumstances to a degree.

Please don’t even try to call the product currently on the field as anything resembling what shark-boi produced. They are not the same. Even you have to admit this.
