Just watched the game and I saw a team that is even more talented than we were last year
Appleby, Castleton and Duruji all look like solid additions while Mann, Payne and Johnson have clearly gotten better.

Lewis and Locke look no better so far but it’s one game.

Very talented but also very sloppy and undisciplined. I know that this is their first game so I won’t read too much into it but given this team’s recent history I did feel a little deja vu.

Hopefully we will see things get cleaned up starting tomorrow night

What happened to playing Oklahoma at 5? The UF website had that online recently and ESPN2 shows it starting in 4 minutes.

Tough first game with little practice beforehand. Down 12-2 after 4 min to start the game. No need for any panic. 74-57 the next 36 minutes. Team lacked rhythm and cohesiveness which should improve.

Mann: Good game. More of a scorer than a shooter. Not a good passer for a point guard. Has defensive skills but still gets beat from time to time. 19 pts 6 reb 4 assists.

K. J. : Good game but battled foul trouble the entire game.
Scotty: Another in foul trouble the entire game.
Castleton: Impressed. Plays sound and rebounded well. Weak hands/trouble catching passes.
Appleby: 15 points in 2nd half. Good energy. Was a bit out of synch after missing much practice.

Payne: Rebounded well. Always a good shot blocker.
Juruji: Looks like he will be a good defender.

Good summary. I see plenty of opportunity to be frustrated again this year based off this performance though. It's getting old.

I didnt see any change from last season. Still classic slow start, defense looked confused and unprepared. All the talk about uptempo was meh. Free throws sucked. Idk, I will allow them to use their one covid excuse of the season for this first game, but doesn't look promising

Watch the second half again. I came away quite encouraged. Really good athleticism, banging the boards, upper-class leadership from DJ, Payne rebounding like a monster, defense put a lot of pressure on Army that eventually broke them down. We shot crap from FT line and from 3 and still came back from a huge deficit to win fairly comfortably. This team could be a lot of fun to watch if you ask me.

KY scored 4 points in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half against KS.
Sounds like a White coached team. :gah:
I started watching the 2nd half and Kansas started chipping away. I turned it off thinking Kansas would win. I tuned into the Sounders game and was disappointed with their 1 goal win :)

Appleby reminds me of Walker. Not afraid to shoot and make a play. Hopefully he keeps that up, but would like to see more facilitation from him. Nice to see he can make FTs when needed.

Appleby seemed to play a little out of control at times but he was the spark we needed in the second half. Solid play from Castleton and Mann too, but Army kept it interesting. We made our free throws down the stretch; I can remember when that was a challenge in itself. Go Gators!

We won, we made some free throws down the streach, a player took over the game at the end to secure a win. These are the only positives I saw. Very poor on defense giving up many very easy baskets from mostly set plays, also Army was great from three in the first half. Some adjustments made at the half but not too great of an effect.

Our lack of discipline and playing defense almost cost a victory. Any playing fast did not work except for Army who had several full court scores even against some defense.

Lots of room for improvement, if that is even possible. Sad situation for me.

My God, I had no idea you are such a White nutswinger. :nutswinger: Are you related or did you make the will? It’s the only explanation. My respect level for la dropped quite a bit.

You didn't expect there to be room for improvement when it was our first game with lots of new pieces and a very limited practice protocol? We had 4 blocks and 12 steals with very aggressive defense in the second half. That's not poor defense by a long shot. We came back from 12 down, back from 8 down at the half to win by 7 which means we outscored them by 15 and scored 45 points in the second half despite missing nearly every 3 attempt. And the fast pace, which you point out Army also wanted to play, definitely helped us even if we were a little frenetic and out of control at times. I really don't think we could have hoped for much than we got out of the team today after getting down big early, but if you want to resign us to a year of ineptitude because of one win I guess that's your prerogative.

Not a White nutswinger. I would have been fine with him getting axed last year. But I just call them as I see them and this was a pretty decent first outing for this squad. It was great to see the second half effort and not seeing Nembhard dribbling away 20 seconds every offensive possession and seeing them actually try to speed things up and score was almost like seeing the forward pass again.

I hate to break it to you but I think we might be pretty damn good this year. Don't worry about it though. You're still the man, and I'm sure White will give us opportunities to btch and moan at times. But we've got some serious athleticism and I think we have some potential to make some noise this year, maybe despite the head coach.

@lagator and @Marine1 and all the other White apologists act like we just played Virginia or Oklahoma or Kansas. It was freaking Army. ARMY! Like Biden/Trump, you are on one side or the other and holding on till the bitter end.
