He's not a friend of mine, but a work client. I can't really harass him. But I can tell you he will know EXACTLY what is going on inside FSU athletics.

What do you want to know? They are out of money and out of political power in the Legislature to bail them out with state budget dollars. T.K. Wetherall, Jim King and John Thrasher gave them state dollars for years, see Stadium, and they came to expect it yearly. Poof.....gone. King, dead. Wetherall, dead. Thrasher, resigned as President, staying while they search for replacement. T.K. Hired a racist alcoholic, Stan Wilcox from the NCAA to be A.D. to protect them from NCAA investigators and sanctions. Wilcox is a drunk and hired Taggart after Jimbo wanted too much and gave Willllllie the moon. Thrasher told Wilcox to find a new job after that fiasco. Thrasher appointed his administrative bean counter Coburn to be A.D. and try to stop the financial bleeding in the Athletic Department. Coburn has zero experience in athletics. Spanx lady alum absolutely positively gave them $25 million to get out from under the Willllie fiasco. She doesn’t even like sports and said don’t come back. We know a few tourism industry huge boosters and they are sick and tired of being hit up repeatedly since Bowden left. Central Michigan athletic director Michael Alford took over for CEO and President Andy Miller, who has been in charge of the boosters since its inception 45 years ago. Miller retiring just adds to the financial cluster fuch as you can imagine the changes the new CEO is trying to make. Norvell walked into a potential hornet’s nest and it has exploded. There are a few other things that are best left unsaid.

Thanks...Insightful

I've said this before about FUCHS. Our Athletic Department may be flush with cash...but a guy like FUCHS could care less about sports. What happens when the Alumni is mostly Elite Nerds? Where do the boosters come from? And if the school stops doing "practical research" and only focuses on the sexy stuff...What happens to guys like Ben Hill Griffin?

Ben Hill Griffin is dead.

So is Ben Hill Griffin Jr. (the one the stadium is named for). He died in 1990.

Ben Hill Griffin III is dead too. He passed away this summer.

May they all rest in peace.

In a heartfelt letter, FSU Director of Athletics David Coburn expressed the heartbreak he's experiencing in having to announce how FSU is cutting 20% of its athletic department budget.

The cuts include the elimination of 25 full-time positions within the athletic department and sliding-scale salary reductions -- and possibly furloughs -- for everyone making $43,000 or more annually.

Coburn also said that head coaches in all sports -- led by football's Mike Norvell, men's basketball Leonard Hamilton and women's basketball Sue Semrau --- have taken "significant pay reductions" as part of these measures.

According to an athletics spokesperson, Norvell took a 25 percent pay cut to help offset cuts for his staff. Coburn took a 20 percent cut. And basketball coaches Hamilton and Semrau took 15 percent pay cuts.

My point they were deep in Citrus Research...Applied Research. That was what Land Grant Colleges did.

Ben Hill Griffin IV waited on me at Sonny's in Gainesville last week, for whatever it's worth. I left him an 11% tip, in honor of Spurrier.

So Norvell "cashes in" by finally moving up in the world and has to take a 25% pay cut in his first year?

He could have stayed at Memphis and really cashed in on a bigtime job....or a job like SC that would have paid him as much or more than FSU. Obviously he didn't know about the China virus and the social justice movement that was coming, but seems like he didn't do his homework on that job. It was clear there were issues there (financially, internally, turmoil, etc). Maybe his ego got the best of him, or his agent pushed him to take the job?

He was a seemingly hot name the previous cycle but none of the big time programs came calling. There's a skeleton in the closest somewhere I think.

I was always pissed that Tony let his son go to that schit school. My guess is he didn't have the grades to get into Florida but I'd still take him.
Damaged goods.
