The "buzz" is a blogger wanting clicks. The "new info" is second hand (imaginary?) information for which he cannot give up his source (voices in his head) and which he can then lay blame upon these sources if false, or take credit himself for inside information if true. Bottom line, you are right that there isn't anything new and the only buzz is media trying to get attention in a dead period.

I think it's just a byproduct of social media. The players have family and close friends they talk to, and as we all know in this day and age, virtually NOTHING stays a secret. Cousins talk, aunts and uncles talk, friends of relatives talk, etc. And nearly all of these folks are on some sort of social media, so stuff leaks. People throw hints on facebook or instagram or twitter, hints become rumors, rumors become speculation and places like this end up with 15 threads on recruiting and 10,000 posts. The circle of life.
