Cover, excellent write up as usual. I suspect the editors at the Gainesville Sun read your post-game summaries and concluded that Dooley can never match your analyses, and forced his resignation and required that he leave the building out the back by the dumpsters.

Regarding UF rushing, I put together a little Excel summary thinking there might be something of a noticeable trend, but did not find one. UF rushing vs. UT seems to be an anomaly, or the start of a trend, or the result of bad Tennessee whiskey. Did our O-line, in a single week, forget how to run block? The Gators leaned on Trask, and he was up to it, fortunately. Did you see that UTs gameplan was to stop the run and force Trask to throw...are they that inept to try that scheme? I didn't see UT stacking the box much to that end, but their 3 & 4 down linemen certainly ID'd our ballcarriers quickly and moved to make the stops. (I well remember my HS coach barking "HIT & HUNT!!...EYES IN THE BACKFIELD!). Without WR Copeland's 17 yd run .
What reason(s) do you see for such an abysmal performance in a single week against a mediocre opponent?

He started with the run and after two stalled drives and a bunch of stuffs.. the next drive was all pass and we marched right down for a TD
I was hoping a light went off
Only time will tell me I was wrong

Never. I thought that after OSU in 2006 too.

Under stress, he always returns to 1990s Notre Dame ball.

It was obvious yesterday that again we had no consistent running game. With the lead I was ok with running some clock in the second half. What I really didn't understand is why run Trask on 3rd and short and then pass on 4th. As Cover said put Jones in on that series and show UT a different look. Running Trask on third and short was a wasted down. As said earlier UT used the three man line, press defense game plan to slow us down. Without a running game and better talent, Bama will use it and more effectively. If we do want to run against Bama maybe we will should incorporate a lot more of EJ into the game plan. LSU would be a good game to give him more playing time and make Bama prepare for another offensive scheme . Empty backfield and throwing 50 plus times against Bama ain't going to get it done.

I actually THOUGHT Mullinz might be bc we were running well w conventional run game earlier in the season. He still felt the need to run options for.some reason JUST TO SEE IF THEY HAD SRARTED WORKING.

Grantham is what Grantham has always been.
I think Mullen is over thinking the RBs. Pierce is the real RB. 1/2 step faster than the others finding the hole and turning N-S. Hes also good at picking up the blitz. The other two are, apparently, better at catching the ball. Pierce was getting 50-75% of the carries early in games, then Mullen would switch the other two in. Now...I don't know what Mullens thinking but its not working.

He just has to show us how smart he is and how Trash is a willing runner.

Throwing crossing passes, or tunnel screens or whatever other high oercentage passes that keeps our receivers inbounds.

I would do what SOS did, pass until they drop into an eight man shell and then run.

Mullinz is very predictable and feels compelled to run in conventional run situations for some reason. Short of Tebow and Dak, he has always been terrible at doing it. I just dont think that will ever change.

Thanks C2. Waking up to the bits and pieces always makes my coffee taste better. Can't add much of anything to what you said. It's obvious this team is better than anything Muschamp or Sharkboy fielded, but they have warts. Very ugly warts all over the place.

It is amazing really that drunk ass Dooley could get PAID TO COVER football for three fuchsing decades, and still cant tell the difference between an inside zone, a zone read, and a zone blitz. And yet, he is just as clueless about football as your average middle school girl.

Youd think just watching practices for decades that he would figure something out. It is amazing.

Bowl is just as clueless. I think UF wants it that way.

UF definitely wants it that way.

We tell you what we want you to know and your job is to repeat verbatim what we tell you and nothing else.

There has always been a level of compliance with the media covering UF but it seems like it has gotten completely robotic in the last 10 years or so.

Thanks Cover2...one of my Sunday morning pleasures

Our run game is really bad...our O Line looked like they were in pass protect mode on run plays! WTF!
Not a crease to be found and it looked like they knew exactly where we were going to go...
Are we really that transparent or is there some reason for our totally unimaginative run play calls?

Without the threat of a running qb in the backfield, our running game is totally dysfunctional.

If we go one dimensional vs Bama they will eat Trask alive. I’d bet we see more Emory in there to mix it up and keep bammer honest. There simply does not seem to be any other way to move the ball on the ground on Dan’s offense. Dan has been plugging Emory in during key moments to prepare him for a bigger role vs satan. Not ideal but it’s the only card to play now. It’ll be our turn to try and keep the opposing offense off the field because Bama will score every possession.

Zambo, I really respect you and your opinions and with the exception of the bolded text, I agree with your post.

How does it make them more honest. With Trask in, they'll defend the pass, with Emory in they'll defend the run. They aren't afraid of Trask running or Emory passing.

Tell me why Jean Delance is still starting:

I understand missed assignments when there are blitzes and twists. But he’s playing tackle, and the end has his hand in the dirt. That’s 100% his dude, 100% of the time.

When the end runs by him, Delance is looking as if he was someone else’s assignment.

WTF!?!

Emory can pass. They should respect his passing if they don't fear it.

@Zambo I understand what you’re saying. I just believe that after the half in game 9, if I’m going to practice anything, it’ll be to put some more looks on film for the upcoming opponents to account for in the passing game, like some more wide screens or circles to the back, than continuing our ineptitude on the ground. Tuesday through Thursday is the time to try and patch that part of the game up imo. Besides, it already looked like Hevesy was about to go apoplectic with the OL. At least try and reduce the damage to their already listing confidence :)
I didn't hear any announcer or anyone here talk about the fact that we hit the wheel route to a back for a TD (taken back with flag for penalty that didn't exist) in the first half, then didn't really run it again. I think we coulda "wheel routed" UT to death a la UGA... maybe just trying to take it off the radar knowing that "it's there when needed for future game."

I really think the O game plan vs. bama will be almost identical to the UGA game... tons of wheel routes with backs and TE's to create a bunch of mismatches and make up for the weak running game. Will bama be ready for that? Yup, at least on paper, but given that their defense isn't the greatest, will that be enough to overcome the mismatches?
